The nativity scene is set up and the figures are in place. Only the roof still looks bare. With these beaver tail veneer shingle strips, you cover it row by row. The result is a finely structured roof tile look, as if each tile had been laid by hand. The dark real wood shingles are made for your miniature roof. They are laser-cut to size and available in 14 sizes.

What changes for you

  • You can cover large areas quickly without placing every wooden shingle on its own. Each strip holds 5 or 10 shingles in one piece.
  • Your roof still looks as if it were tiled one shingle at a time. The cut lines are designed to trace the classic shingle pattern.
  • You will find the right size for every project, from a small nativity scene to a larger model house. Choose from 14 sizes, from 15 x 7.5 mm to 80 x 40 mm.
  • You're free to design, paint, oil or glue them as you like – because the wood comes untreated in its natural state.
  • You work with clean, smooth edges. Every strip is precisely laser-cut.

Why these veneer shingle strips make a difference

The roof often decides whether a nativity scene, a pyramid or a model house looks lovingly built or simply put together. The dark beaver tail shingles give your work a fine, calm shingle texture that people enjoy looking at. The strips save you from placing each shingle one by one. So you have more time for the details that make your work special.

Material & finish

Each strip is made of dark real wood veneer, approx. 0.6 to 1 mm thick. It is thin enough for delicate roofs and firm enough to glue neatly. Laser cutting gives smooth edges and accurate shapes. The strips are made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia. Wood is a purely natural material. Differences in shade, a lively grain and small knots are not flaws. They make every piece one of a kind.

How to use the shingle strips

  • Building a nativity scene in Advent: You cover the stable roof row by row. The nativity scene gets the rustic look that belongs to Christmas.
  • On a Christmas pyramid: Lined up side by side, the strips create the look of classic roof tiles. Your miniature roof looks like a real, traditionally tiled roof.
  • In model making: Houses, towers and huts get a finely structured shingle pattern. No need for hours of gluing single shingles.
  • Crafting and decorating: You paint or oil the untreated wood in the shade you want. That way you match the roof exactly to your project.
  • In shop window and store displays: With just a few strips, you can build atmospheric miniature houses for your Christmas decorations. They are quick to put together and can be reused every year.

Good to know about the beaver tail

The beaver tail is one of the oldest roof tile shapes of all. It is named after its semicircular end, which looks like the flat tail of a beaver. You can still see it on many historic roofs in Germany today. That is why nativity scenes, pyramids and model houses with beaver tail shingles look so familiar and authentic.

Care & durability

There is not much you need to do. In their natural state, the shingles are meant for indoor use. There they keep their look for a long time. If your project is going outside, such as a nativity scene by the front door, treat the wood first, for example with oil. This protects the veneer from moisture.

Options & what's included

  • 14 shingle sizes to choose from: from 15 x 7.5 mm to 80 x 40 mm
  • Choose 5 or 10 shingles per strip
  • What you get: 5 strips in the size and version you choose

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or oil the shingle strips? Yes. The wood comes untreated in its natural state. You can glue things onto it, paint it or oil it, just as your project needs.

Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural form, for indoor use only. For outdoor use, the wood needs to be treated, for example by oiling it.

How many shingles are in a pack? You get 5 strips with 5 or 10 shingles each. That makes 25 or 50 shingles in the size you choose.

Why don't all the shingles look the same? Wood is a purely natural material. Shade and grain vary, and small knots are normal. This makes every roof one of a kind.

The best part is the moment you lay the last row and take a step back. Your miniature roof looks as if a roofer had tiled it in miniature. Just choose your size and strip length and get started.
