The Elder Futhark – often called the Elder Futhark alphabet – is the first rune row. It has 24 characters, used in the same form by all Germanic tribes. The word rune means secret. There isn't much to do. Just keep the untreated runes dry and dust them now and then. If you oil or paint them, you bring out the grain and give the surface extra protection.
