The barbecue is in full swing, the glasses are outside – and so are the wasps, leaves and condensation on the table. A beech wood beer mat takes care of both: it protects your tabletop as a coaster and covers your glass when you leave it for a moment. Your drink stays undisturbed, and your table looks made for that beer garden moment.

What changes for you

  • You can put your glass down without a worry and without fearing rings on the table or bar – because the sturdy wooden lid keeps moisture away from your furniture.
  • Your drink stays protected in the garden or on the patio – because the lid with its base sits securely on the rim of the glass and keeps insects and leaves out.
  • Your table setting looks more natural and homely – thanks to the light, smoothly sanded beech wood surface with its visible grain.
  • You give something personal rather than something generic – with the optional engraving in a choice of fonts, the drink coaster becomes a little one-of-a-kind piece with a name or saying.
  • You'll enjoy it for a long time – because the lid is made from a single piece of beech wood, robust and keeps its shape.

Why this beer mat makes a difference every day

A cardboard coaster goes soggy, a plastic one soon looks generic. Wood, on the other hand, brings calm and warmth to the table – whether it's a beer after work, a snack with friends or your regular get-together at the pub. And because the lid also covers your glass, you can relax outdoors: you don't have to keep an eye on your drink all the time.

Material & finish

The beer mat is made from a single piece of beech wood – with no glued joints, which makes it robust and durable in everyday use. The light surface is smooth and pleasant to hold, the wood completely untreated and neatly finished, made in the EU. As beech is a purely natural material, every lid turns out slightly differently: variations in shade, small knots and fine textures in the grain are not flaws – they make every piece unique.

How to use your beer mat

  • At a barbecue in the garden: pop the lid on your glass – and head to the grill with peace of mind, without wasps or leaves getting into your drink.
  • On the living room table: as a drink coaster under a glass or bottle – and your wooden table stays free from water rings.
  • As a personal gift: engraved with a name for a birthday, a barbecue party or Father's Day – and the recipient has something that's truly theirs alone.
  • In restaurants, bars and beer gardens: matching wooden coasters on every table – they look well kept, protect the furniture and, with an engraving such as your venue's name, become a recognisable feature.
  • At a party with lots of guests: everyone covers their glass with their own lid – and nobody has to ask whose drink is whose any more.

Good to know about the beer mat

Its German name, Bierdeckel (literally "beer lid"), is no coincidence: originally it really was placed on top of the glass outdoors to protect the beer from insects and leaves – only later did it move underneath the glass. This wooden lid with a base picks up exactly this tradition and does both: covering and coasting.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do: simply wipe the lid with a slightly damp cloth when needed and let it air dry. As the beech wood is untreated, it isn't dishwasher safe and shouldn't be left in water for long – that way it keeps its shape and its light surface for many years.

Options & what's included

  • Available individually or in sets of 5 or 10
  • Optionally with a personalised engraving – a choice of fonts is available (see image no. 7)
  • Please note: items with a personalised engraving are produced individually for you and are therefore excluded from the right of withdrawal

Frequently asked questions

Is the wood treated? No, the beech wood is completely untreated – no varnish, oil or coating.

Can I also use the lid to cover glasses? Yes, that's what it's made for: the base, approx. 6.5 cm in diameter, sits securely on the rim of the glass while the lid protects your drink.

Why does my lid look different from the picture? Wood is a natural material – shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. That's exactly what makes every lid unique.

Can I return an engraved beer mat? No, items with a personalised engraving are produced individually after purchase and are excluded from the right of withdrawal. You'll find details in our cancellation policy.

Is the coaster dishwasher safe? No, please just wipe it with a damp cloth – untreated wood doesn't cope well with prolonged moisture.

In the end, it's not about a wooden lid 10 cm in diameter. It's about that evening in the garden when you can simply leave your glass standing and the table looks just the same afterwards. Just choose how many you'd like – and, if you fancy, add your personalised engraving. At Bütic you'll find both in one calm, honest piece of beech.
