Choose according to the thickness of your weaving material. There are basket bases with holes for 2 mm and for 3 mm rattan cane, each in diameters from 5 to 35 cm. Every size is available with an even and with an odd number of holes. This is useful because many weaving techniques need an odd number of stakes, while others need an even number. So you can pick the base that suits your project and your preferred technique. As well as rattan cane, the bases also work with willow stakes of a suitable thickness.
With a ready-made basket base, you skip the fiddly job of weaving the base. For beginners, this is often the biggest hurdle. You simply push the stakes into the pre-drilled holes and start weaving the sides straight away. That's why these weaving bases are popular in craft groups, schools, courses and occupational therapy. Experienced weavers use them too when they want an even result quickly.
You can use the finished baskets however you need. Use one as a small basket for snacks or for storage at home. Make your own gift basket, or display small items with care on a buffet or market stall. When ordering, make sure the holes and the material thickness match. Then the stakes sit firmly and weaving is easy.
