Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The Christmas pyramid is on the table. The nativity scene is waiting for its roof. You want your model to look real in the end, as if a carpenter had built it in miniature. That is exactly what these veneer shingles in Rhön shape are made for. They are small dark pieces of real wood. You fix them row by row until you have a detailed, true-to-life roof. Made for your next model-making project, from a nativity roof to a miniature house.
What changes for you
- Your roof looks properly shingled, not stuck on. Each shingle is made of real dark wood veneer with a natural grain.
- You can glue neatly without any reworking. The edges are laser-cut and smooth, and every piece is cut to size after you order.
- You will find the right size for every project, from a delicate nativity scene to a larger decoration. There are 28 sizes to choose from, from 15 x 7.5 mm to 150 x 75 mm.
- You can design it your way. The untreated wood can be painted, varnished, oiled or simply left natural.
- You decide the quantity yourself. Use the quantity selector to order exactly as many shingles as your roof needs.
Why these veneer shingles make a real difference
On a nativity scene, pyramid or model house, the roof is the first thing people look at. Real wood shingles instead of printed card give your work depth. You can see the wood texture, and that sets natural material apart from printed surfaces. Anyone who looks closely will notice the effort. That turns a craft project into a piece you are happy to show off.
Material & finish
Each shingle is made of dark real wood veneer. It is laser-cut to size in our own production in Pößneck, only after you order. The laser cut gives smooth edges and a clean finish. You can use the fine pieces straight away. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint, oil and glue reliably. As a purely natural material, every shingle is unique. Variations in shade, fine textures in the grain and small knots are not flaws. They give your roof a lively, authentic look.

How to use the veneer shingles
- At the craft table at Christmas: you cover the roof of your pyramid row by row. In the end, a miniature shingled roof turns above the figures and looks just like the real thing.
- On the nativity scene: instead of a plain board, your stable gets a shingled roof with visible wood texture. On the windowsill, your nativity scene clearly stands apart from smoother builds.
- In model making: you clad houses, towers or half-timbered models with real wooden roof shingles. Your model instantly gains true-to-scale detail and depth.
- For free-style decorating: you paint or decorate the fine wooden pieces and use them on cards, boxes or seasonal decorations. Every piece turns out differently, and no two are alike.
- For shop windows and shop displays: a small shingled roof above your product display quickly creates a rustic winter scene. No big set-up is needed.
Good to know about wooden shingles
Wooden shingles have been part of traditional building in upland regions such as the Rhön for centuries. There they protect roofs and walls from wind and weather. That is where this shape gets its name. When you cover your nativity or pyramid roof in Rhön shape, you bring a real piece of craft tradition into miniature.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. Left untreated, the shingles are meant for indoor use. Indoors they keep their shape and colour for a long time. If your piece is going outside, for example a nativity scene at the front door, treat the wood first, for instance with oil. This keeps the dark surface protected from moisture.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or oil the shingles? Yes. The wood is untreated and can be glued, varnished, oiled or painted, just as you like.
Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? Left natural, they are for indoor use only. For outdoor use, treat the wood first, for example by oiling it.
Why don't all the shingles look the same? Wood is a purely natural material. Variations in shade, fine grain and small knots are normal and make every piece unique.
How are the shingles made? They are laser-cut to size after you order. The edges are smooth, so you can use them straight away.
How thick are the shingles? The material is approx. 0.6–1 mm thick. That is fine enough for delicate roofs and sturdy enough for gluing.
Veneer and shape are only the start. The best part is the moment you place the last shingle and step back. Your roof looks as if it has always been there. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
