Why these veneer shingles make a real difference
The roof decides whether a model looks like a craft project or like real craftsmanship. When the honeycomb shingles overlap, they create exactly the texture you know from old shingle roofs. Your nativity scene or model house looks as if it had really been roofed. Instead of settling for paper or plastic, you work with a natural material. It feels good and looks genuine.
Material & finish
The shingles are made of dark real wood veneer with a thickness of approx. 0.6 to 1 mm. They are thin enough to fit neatly into delicate models. They are also sturdy enough for gluing and painting. Laser cutting gives smooth edges and a clean finish, so you can use each shingle straight away. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. You decide on the surface yourself. As a purely natural material, each veneer shows different shades, small knots or slight irregularities in the grain. This makes every piece unique and your roof as convincing as a real one.

How to use the veneer shingles
- On the nativity scene: Cover the stable roof row by row with overlapping honeycomb shingles. The nativity scene then looks as if it had stood under the Christmas tree for generations.
- In model making: Houses, mills or half-timbered models get a roof with real wood texture instead of a printed pattern.
- For decorating: Decorate wooden boxes, picture frames or seasonal decorations with the dark honeycombs. In just a few minutes they take on a rustic character.
- For painting and designing: The untreated veneer takes paint, stain and oil well. So you can match the colour exactly to your project.
- Our tip for the Christmas season: Cover the roofs of your Christmas pyramid with the shingles, true to detail. With 28 sizes, you will always find the right format, from a small miniature roof to a large model.
Good to know about wooden shingles
Wooden shingles are among the oldest roof coverings of all. Long before fired roof tiles, overlapping wooden plates protected each other from wind and weather. You use exactly this principle on a small scale. When you glue the honeycomb shingles on staggered and overlapping, your model gets the same scale-like look as historic originals.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. Indoors, the shingles stay looking good in their natural state for years, whether on the nativity scene, the pyramid or the model house. If your piece is going outside, treat the wood first, for example by oiling it. Untreated, the veneer is only suitable for indoor use. In general, keep the natural material away from constant moisture.

Frequently asked questions
Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural state, they are for indoor use only. For outdoors, the wood must be treated, for example by oiling it.
Can I paint the shingles or stick things on them? Yes. The veneer is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It can be glued, coated, painted or oiled.
Do all the shingles look exactly the same? The shape is precisely laser-cut, but the wood's appearance varies. As a natural material, the veneer shows different shades, grain patterns and small knots. That is part of it and makes the look lively.
How thick are the shingles? The material thickness is approx. 0.6 to 1 mm. That is fine enough for detailed models and sturdy when you work with it.
Where do the shingles come from? Every order is precisely laser-cut in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.
What counts is not the veneer or the honeycomb cut. It is the moment you glue on the last shingle and step back. Suddenly your model has a proper roof. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
