Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The little half-timbered house is standing. The nativity scene is almost finished. Only the roof still looks bare. With these pointed veneer shingles, you cover it row by row. Bit by bit, the shell turns into a proper little house. The dark real wood shingles look like a roof that has weathered for years. Just right for your winter landscape.
What changes for you
- Your model roof looks real and weathered straight away – because the dark real wood veneer resembles an old, weather-worn shingle roof.
- You can work cleanly without any sanding – thanks to laser cutting with smooth edges.
- You'll find the right size for almost any scale – choose from 28 sizes, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm.
- You're free to design, glue, paint or oil them – because the wood comes untreated and in its natural state.
- You can lay the shingles easily and flexibly – at only approx. 0.6 to 1 mm thick, they sit snugly on your roof.
Why these veneer shingles make a real difference
The roof is the first thing you notice on a model. This is where it shows whether your little house, nativity scene or Christmas pyramid looks home-made or properly built. Real wooden shingles instead of printed paper give your project depth and texture. Each shingle visibly overlaps the next and casts a small shadow. Every shingle is a small piece of nature. Together they make a roof you'll be happy to show off up close.
Material & finish
The shingles are made of dark real wood veneer. After you order, we laser-cut them to size in our own production in Pößneck. They have smooth edges and a clean finish, so you can get started right away. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That's why it takes glue, paint or oil well. As with any natural material, the shade and grain vary slightly from shingle to shingle. Small knots are normal. This makes every roof unique and gives it a lively, authentic look.

How to use the veneer shingles
- In model making: You cover half-timbered houses, mills or station buildings row by row. Your model gets a roof that looks weathered, just like the real thing.
- At Christmas: The roof of your Christmas pyramid or the little houses in your winter landscape get dark shingles. The scene looks as if it has stood on the Christmas table for generations.
- For the nativity scene: The stable gets a rustic roof of real roof shingles. The dark wood surface goes well with moss, straw and figures.
- For decorating and embellishing: You paint or decorate the shingles however you like. Use them as craft wood for cards, little boxes or small Christmas gifts.
- In the shop window or on the counter: In just a few steps, you build a little row of houses with real wooden roofs that makes customers stop and look.
Good to know about wooden shingles
Wooden shingles have covered roofs and façades for centuries, especially in the Alps and in upland regions. Over time, wind and weather darken the wood. The dark veneer shingles come with exactly this weathered tone from the start. So nativity scenes, Christmas pyramids and model houses look as if they have seen many winters.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Left natural, the shingles are meant for indoor use. There they keep their dark, lively look for a long time. If your project is going outdoors, treat the wood first – for example by oiling it. This protects it from moisture.
