Why these veneer shingles make a difference
The roof is the first thing people look at. That goes for a nativity scene, a model house or a Christmas pyramid. Real wood shingles give your piece a visible grain and a matt surface you can feel. Printed paper or plastic can't match that. The dark wood makes the windows, figures and lights in front of it look even warmer. And your work stands up to close inspection.
Material & finish
The shingles are made from dark real wood veneer, approx. 0.6 to 1 mm thick. That's thin enough to layer neatly in rows. At the same time, they keep their shape when glued. We laser-cut them to order in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. This means the shape and size are reliably consistent and the edges are smooth. Wood is a natural material. Colour, grain and small knots vary from shingle to shingle. That makes every roof one of a kind and is not a defect. Untreated, the shingles are meant for indoor use. For outdoor use, treat them first, for example by oiling.

How to use the veneer shingles
- For nativity scenes: Lay the shingles in staggered rows on the stable or nativity house. The roof gets the lively texture you know from real shingle roofs.
- For Christmas: Cover the roof of your pyramid, a winter cottage or a light-up house. In candlelight, the dark wood looks especially warm.
- For model making: Choose the shingle size to match the scale of your house. That way the proportions and details are right down to the last bit.
- For crafting: Paint, varnish or glue the untreated shingles. Make every project your own.
- For shop windows and store displays: Build seasonal houses or winter scenes with real material. The visible wood texture stands out, and you can reuse them year after year.
Good to know about wooden shingles
Wooden shingles are one of the oldest roofing materials of all. The pointed Gothic shape can still be seen today on church towers and historic buildings. That's why the Gothic cut suits nativity scenes, church models and anything meant to look a little like old architecture.
Care & durability
There isn't much to do. Indoors, the untreated shingles can simply stay as they are. If your piece is going outside, treat the wood first, for example by oiling. This protects the surface. In general, keep untreated veneer away from constant moisture. Then you'll enjoy your shingle roof for a long time.
