Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The little half-timbered house is standing. The nativity scene is nearly finished. Only the roof still looks bare. With these dark real wood veneer shingles in a hexagonal shape, you cover it row by row. Bit by bit, the bare frame becomes a roof that looks like the real thing. They're made for your model-making project. The wooden shingles are wafer-thin, so you can even cover small, curved surfaces.
What changes for you
- Your model gets a roof with a real wood look instead of printed paper. Each roof shingle is made of dark real wood veneer with a natural grain.
- You can neatly cover small surfaces too, such as the roof of a Christmas pyramid. The material is only approx. 0.6 to 1 mm thick, so the shingles are easy to glue on.
- You can carry on without sanding. Each shingle is precision laser-cut and has smooth edges.
- You'll find the right format for every project. Choose from 28 sizes, from a tiny 15 x 7.5 mm up to 150 x 75 mm.
- You can design freely to suit your idea. The untreated wood can be glued, painted, coated or oiled.
Why these veneer shingles make a real difference
A roof often decides whether a model looks homemade or lifelike. Lay the hexagonal shingles so they overlap. This creates a fine, irregular play of light, shadow and grain. No printed pattern can copy that. Your nativity scene, house or pyramid gets a handmade depth. People will want to take a second look.
Material & finish
Each shingle is made of dark real wood veneer. After you order, it is precision laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. This gives smooth edges and clean workmanship you can rely on when gluing. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. So it takes paint, oil and glue well. As a purely natural material, it shows different shades, fine textures and the occasional small knot. That isn't a flaw. It's exactly what makes every roof one of a kind. In their natural form, the shingles are meant for indoor use. For outdoor use, treat them first, for example by oiling.

How to use the veneer shingles
- For model making: Cover houses, barns or towers with overlapping shingles. Your model gets a roof that looks like a real wooden shingle roof in miniature.
- On the nativity scene: Individual shingles cover the stable instead of a smooth roof. Suddenly the nativity landscape looks rustic and lifelike.
- Our tip for the Christmas season: Cover the roof of your pyramid with overlapping shingles. The thin material makes gluing easier, even on small surfaces. With its wooden surface, the pyramid stands out on the festive table.
- For decorating and embellishing: Paint the hexagons or stick them onto cards, boxes or seasonal decorations. You're working with a natural material instead of plastic.
- In the shop window or at the Christmas market: Use the shingles to build small huts and roofs for displaying your goods. The real wood surface is visible, and the shingles are quick to glue.
Good to know about wooden shingles
Wooden shingles are one of the oldest roof coverings of all. Long before roof tiles, overlapping wooden slats protected houses in mountain regions from wind and weather. You copy this traditional technique in miniature. Glue the hexagonal shingles row by row, from bottom to top, staggering each row. Your model roof then looks just like the original.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Indoors, you can leave the shingles untreated and simply use them. If you want to use them outdoors, treat the wood first, for example by oiling. This keeps the dark surface looking good for a long time. With untreated veneer, it's best to avoid constant moisture.

Frequently asked questions
Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural form, they are for indoor use only. For outdoors, you need to treat the wood first, for example by oiling it.
Can I paint the shingles or stick things on them? Yes. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. You can glue, coat, paint or oil it.
Why do the shingles look different from each other? Wood is a purely natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary. That's exactly what makes each piece one of a kind.
How thick are the shingles? The material is approx. 0.6 to 1 mm thick. That's thin enough to glue them neatly onto small surfaces too.
Are the edges cleanly cut? Yes. Each shingle is precision laser-cut after you order and has smooth edges. You can use them straight away.
Veneer and hexagons are only the material. The best part is the moment you press on the last shingle and take a step back. Suddenly your model has a proper roof. Just choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
