It works just like real roof tiles, only at the scale of your project. Your kit or home-made build becomes a model with character, made for your craft room.
What changes for you
- Your model roof looks true to detail. Each shingle is precisely laser-cut, and the rows overlap neatly.
- You will find the right size for every scale, with no cutting of your own. Choose from 28 sizes, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm.
- You can design freely to suit your idea. The untreated wood can be glued, painted, coated or oiled.
- Your nativity scene or pyramid gets a warm, natural colour. The dark real wood veneer needs no paint at all.
- You work cleanly and quickly. The laser-cut edges are smooth. Nothing frays, and nothing needs sanding.
Why these veneer shingles make a real difference
The roof often decides whether a model looks crafted or properly built. Evenly shaped shingles made of real wood give your project the calm, regular structure you know from historic roofs. Each piece still looks lively, because no two pieces of wood are alike. Roofing is fun in itself, and the finished piece can stay on the Christmas table.
Material & finish
The shingles are made of dark real wood veneer with a thickness of approx. 0.6 to 1 mm. They are thin enough to glue in overlapping rows without bulky edges. At the same time, they keep their shape while you work. We laser-cut each shingle to size after you order, in our own production in Pößneck. This gives smooth edges and a clean finish. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. In its natural state, it is meant for indoor use. For outdoor use, treat it first, for example with oil. Different shades, fine grain patterns and small knots are part of a pure natural material. This makes every roof one of a kind, as no two pieces are the same.

How to use the veneer shingles
- For model making: you cover the roof of your half-timbered house row by row, with overlapping shingles. The bare structure becomes a model that looks scaled down rather than crafted.
- For the nativity scene: the stable gets a dark shingle roof. The scene looks warmer straight away and tells more of a story.
- For decorating and painting: you paint the shingles one by one. For example, you can show mossy or weathered sections of roof.
- In your craft corner: you use the segment shape as craft wood for cards, objects or small Christmas gifts. Each piece shows real wood grain.
- Our tip for the Christmas season: The dark shingles are ideal for roofing a pyramid. Glue them on row by row so they overlap. You get a detailed roof at the scale you want, and it can come back out on the table every year.
Good to know about shingles
Wooden shingles are among the oldest roof coverings of all. Long before clay roof tiles were common, overlapping wooden slats protected houses, churches and towers. With the veneer shingles, you recreate this traditional method in miniature. Work row by row from bottom to top, with each row offset. Your model roof then looks like its historic original.
Care & durability
There is little you need to do. Indoors, the untreated shingles stay as they are and keep their natural colour. If your piece is going outdoors, treat the wood first, for example with oil. That way it can stand up to wind and weather. Avoid constant moisture with untreated wood. Then you can enjoy your roof for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the shingles outdoors? Left natural, they are only suitable for indoor use. For outdoor use, you need to treat the wood first, for example with oil.
Can I paint the shingles or stick things on them? Yes. The wood is untreated. You can stick things on it, coat it, oil it or paint it, just as your design needs.
Why don't all the shingles look the same? Wood is a pure natural material. Different shades, grain patterns and small knots are normal. This is what makes every piece unique.
