The pyramid is on the table and the nativity crib is waiting for its roof. And right now you're missing the right shingles. With these real wood veneer shingles in a wave shape, you can cover miniature roofs piece by piece. Keep going until your model looks like a real little house. The dark wood adds the depth that brings handmade roofs to life. Just right for your Christmas crafting.

What changes for you

  • Your model roof looks as if it were really tiled. The wave shape is modelled on classic roof tiles, and the rows overlap neatly.
  • You can carry on working without sanding or trimming. The edges are laser-cut and smooth, and each piece is made to size after you order.
  • You'll find the right size for every project, from a delicate crib roof to a larger model house. Choose from 28 sizes, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm.
  • You can design freely, just as you like. The wood is untreated, so you can stick things on, paint, coat or oil it.
  • You're working with a natural material, and every shingle shows its own grain. This gives your roof a lively, natural look.

Why these veneer shingles make a real difference

A roof often decides whether a nativity crib or model house looks homemade or finished. When real wooden shingles in a wave shape cover the roof, your miniature gains texture, shadows and warmth. People notice these details straight away. They just can't say why it all suddenly looks so right. At Christmas in particular, when the pyramid and the crib take centre stage, this detail pays off.

Material & finish

The shingles are made of dark real wood veneer, approx. 0.6 to 1 mm thick. That's thin enough to work with easily. At the same time it's sturdy enough to cover whole roof surfaces. We laser-cut them in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. Each piece is cut only after you order and precisely to size, with clean, smooth edges. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Differences in shade, fine patterns in the grain and small knots are not flaws. They make every shingle one of a kind.

How to use the veneer shingles

  • Roofing a Christmas pyramid: glue the shingles on row by row. The roof gets the typical tiled look, which is especially lovely as the pyramid turns in the candlelight.
  • On a nativity crib roof: the wave shape lets the shingles overlap like real roof tiles. Your crib will look as if it has stood under the tree for generations.
  • In model making: houses, huts and miniatures get a detailed roof. With 28 sizes, there's a scale for everything from a small birdhouse to a larger model.
  • For decorating and embellishing: painted, with things stuck on or left natural, the dark craft wood adds to cards, wreaths or seasonal decorations.
  • For shop windows and shop displays: build a Christmas scene with a shingle-roofed miniature house that makes customers stop and look. It's quick to put together, because the pieces arrive cut precisely to size.

Good to know about wooden shingles

Wooden shingles are among the oldest roof coverings of all. To this day they shape houses in the Alps and Germany's low mountain ranges. That's exactly why nativity cribs, pyramids and model houses with real wooden shingles look so convincing. In miniature, you put the craft tradition you know from the real thing on your own roof.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Left natural, the shingles are meant for indoor use and will last for years there. If your piece is going outside, treat the wood first, for example by oiling it. That way it stands up to wind and weather and keeps its dark look.

Options & what's included

  • 28 sizes to choose from, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm
  • Quantity: you receive the shingles in the pack size you select

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the shingles outdoors? Left natural, they are only suitable for indoor use. For outdoor use, you need to treat the wood first, for example by oiling it.

Can I paint the shingles or stick things on them? Yes. The veneer is untreated and you can stick things on, paint, coat or oil it. Paint and glue adhere directly to the raw wood.

Do all the shingles look the same? No, wood is a natural material. Shade and grain vary, and small knots can occur. That's exactly what makes every piece unique.

How clean are the edges? The shingles are laser-cut precisely to size after you order and have smooth edges. You can use them straight away without any finishing.

Veneer and wave cut are only part of the story. What really counts is the moment the last shingle is in place. You step back, and your crib or pyramid suddenly looks like a small piece of craftsmanship with a history. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
