Fresh from the market or from your own vegetable patch: potatoes, carrots and mushrooms taste best with their skins on. Once the soil is off, that is. This is where the beech vegetable brush with its two bristle sides helps you. The stiff side removes heavy dirt from firm vegetables. The soft side gently cleans delicate ones such as mushrooms or peppers. Made for your kitchen sink – and your peeler stays in the drawer more often.
What changes for you
- You clean firm and delicate vegetables with just one brush. That's thanks to the two bristle sides of stiffer bassine and softer Tampico fibre.
- You get potatoes, radishes and celeriac clean, even when they're very muddy. The dark, stiff side scrubs firmly enough.
- Your mushrooms, cucumbers and courgettes stay intact. The light, soft side is gentle on the surface and doesn't roughen it.
- You hold a natural material in your hand instead of plastic. The beech wood handle is comfortable and gives a good grip, even with wet fingers.
- You'll find the right size for your hand and your vegetables. The brush comes in three shapes and sizes.
Why this vegetable brush makes a difference every day
Instead of scrubbing, peeling or making do with a sponge, you have a tool to hand that's made for exactly this job. Cleaning vegetables goes faster, and the skin stays on. By the sink, you have a piece of beech wood instead of a frayed sponge. A small change you'll notice every time you prepare vegetables. At home just as much as in a restaurant kitchen.
Material & finish
The brush body is made of beech wood. It's a firm, durable wood whose grain and colour vary slightly from piece to piece. That's not a flaw but the mark of a natural product: every brush is unique. The bristles are natural fibres. The dark, stiffer side is bassine, the light, softer side is Tampico. The neat workmanship means the brush lasts a long time, even with daily use. The brush is made in Germany.

How to use the vegetable brush
- Potatoes fresh from the market: scrub them under running water with the stiff bassine side. The soil comes off, the skin stays on, and the potatoes go straight into the pan.
- Mushrooms for dinner: brush them dry with the soft Tampico side instead of soaking them. The mushrooms stay firm and don't take on water when you fry them.
- Carrots, radishes and mooli for packed lunches or a snack: give them a quick brush instead of peeling them. Your plate of crudités is ready, with no peelings.
- In a restaurant or catering kitchen: when you prepare larger amounts of celeriac, peppers or courgettes, the double-sided brush saves you reaching for two tools. That's one step less in your mise en place.
Good to know about the vegetable brush
Many vitamins and nutrients in vegetables sit just under the skin. If you brush instead of peeling, more of them end up on your plate. Tampico fibre, used here for the soft side, comes from Mexican agave plants. It keeps its shape even when wet. That's why it has been the classic fibre for kitchen and vegetable brushes for generations.
Care & durability
There's not much to do. After use, rinse the bristles under clean water. Then let the brush air-dry with the bristles facing down. Keep the beech wood away from constant moisture and the dishwasher. That way the wood and natural bristles keep their shape for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Which side should I use for which vegetable? The dark, stiff bassine side is for heavy dirt and firm vegetables such as potatoes, radishes or celeriac. The light, soft Tampico side is for delicate vegetables such as mushrooms, peppers or cucumbers, and for light dirt.
What are the bristles made of? Both sides are natural fibres. The stiff side is bassine, the soft side is Tampico. The body is made of beech wood.
Can the brush go in the dishwasher? No, better not. Beech wood and natural bristles last longest if you just rinse the brush and let it air-dry.
Do all the brushes look the same? Not quite. Beech wood is a natural material, so grain and colour can vary slightly. This makes every brush unique.
Where is the brush made? The vegetable brush is made in Germany.
A brush with two bristle sides is only the tool. What it gives you is the moment your fresh vegetables lie clean on the board with their skins on. And you can start cooking straight away. Simply choose the model that fits your hand best in the Bütic shop.
