Your guests are already on their way. Cheese and bread are ready. But on a plain, smooth plate, it all looks a bit random. This round bark-edge board in ash or alder brings real wood grain and a rustic bark edge to your table. It's just right for an evening of bread, cheese and cold cuts. Looking for round, untreated wooden boards? Then this is also a base for serving, decorating and your own DIY projects.

What changes for you

  • Your table instantly feels more inviting without much decorating – because the bark rim and lively grain create atmosphere all on their own.
  • You can serve cheese, bread or antipasti with character – on a sanded, smooth surface that feels pleasant in your hand.
  • You can put your ideas into practice straight away – pyrography, acrylic paint, hand lettering or engraving all work on the completely untreated wood with no preparation.
  • You'll find the right size for every purpose – from a small slice of approx. 8 cm to a large board of approx. 38 cm in diameter.
  • You get a piece that's truly one of a kind – because growth, bark and grain make every tree slice unique.

Why this bark-edge board makes a difference every day

A decorative wooden board with bark noticeably changes the mood on your table: whatever you arrange on it looks as though you took time and care, even if you had to be quick. As a base for candles, moss or dried flowers, the wooden slice gives you a calm, natural foundation all year round that you can restyle again and again for spring, autumn, Advent or a wedding. And as a blank for signs and gifts, a simple slice of wood becomes something personal in your own style.

Material & finish

  • Ash or alder with genuine, natural bark – the bark rim gives every board its rustic frame.
  • Natural sanded surface – smooth enough for serving, painting and writing on.
  • Completely untreated, with no varnish or oil – ideal if you'd like to finish the wood yourself.
  • Already dried and neatly finished – made in the EU.
  • Colour, grain and the line of the bark vary from piece to piece – that's not a flaw, it's the nature of a natural product. Small knots or fine cracks are part of it, too.

Dimensions & technical details

  • Shape: round, tree slice with bark
  • Wood type: ash / alder
  • Surface: natural sanded, completely untreated

  • Diameter 16 to 26 cm: approx. 2 cm thick

How to use your bark-edge board

  • For a rustic spread: arrange cheese, ham and bread on the tree slice – and your evening feels like a mountain hut rather than the kitchen table.
  • As table décor: place a candle, some moss or eucalyptus on the slice – and the centre of your table is beautifully set in two minutes.
  • At a wedding: as a ring board, welcome sign or lettered with pyrography – a detail guests photograph rather than overlook.
  • In a DIY project: design a door sign, garden bar sign or photo engraving on the untreated surface – and the result is a gift with personal meaning for a birthday, housewarming or anniversary.
  • In a café, on the buffet or at a market stall, you can serve cake, canapés or samples on the round slices. Setting up is quick. You can mix different sizes to suit your needs.

Good to know about ash and alder

Ash has long been known as a particularly tough, hard-wearing wood. It was traditionally used for tool handles and sports equipment. Alder, on the other hand, is valued for its warm, slightly reddish tone. You benefit from both. You get a sturdy board for everyday use on the buffet. You also get a wood colour on which pyrography and lettering stand out clearly.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do: after use, simply wipe the board with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry. Avoid the dishwasher, long soaking and constant moisture – that way the wood and bark keep their shape and you'll enjoy the natural look for years.

Frequently asked questions

Can I serve food on the bark-edge board? Yes, the board makes a rustic serving surface for cheese, bread, ham or antipasti. The surface is completely untreated – so no varnish or oil comes into contact with your food.

Is the tree slice suitable for pyrography and engraving? Yes, the natural sanded, untreated surface is a great base for pyrography, acrylic paint, hand lettering and photo engraving – with no pre-treatment needed.

Do all the boards look the same? No. Wood is a natural material: colour, grain, the line of the bark and shape all vary, and small knots and fine cracks are typical of the material. The sizes given are approximate and may vary by around 1 to 2 cm.

Can I use the board outdoors? It works well for garden parties, a garden bar sign or outdoor wedding décor. As the wood is untreated, though, you shouldn't leave it exposed to wet conditions for long, and should bring it back somewhere dry after the celebration.

Will I get ash or alder? Bütic offers these boards in ash or alder – both woods are dried, sanded and have their genuine, natural bark.

In the end, it's not about a slice of wood with bark. It's about the moment your guests sit down at the table and say, “That looks lovely” – or about the handmade sign that catches everyone's eye at the wedding. Simply choose the size that suits your idea.
