Outside it gets dark early. Inside you want things to feel cosy. Sometimes a single tealight is all it takes. In this earthenware house lantern, its warm glow falls outwards through the cut-out windows. On your windowsill, a little half-timbered house lights up, just right for the darker months. The gable, timber beams and roof edge stand out in the light. A simple candle becomes a small scene. During the day, it stays out as quiet decoration.

What changes for you

  • You bring a cosy mood into the room straight away – a single tealight lights up the façade from inside. The light shines outwards through the cut-out windows.
  • You light and refill it without lifting the house – thanks to the 45 x 55 mm opening at the back. Simply slide the tealight in and swap it out just as easily.
  • Your windowsill and furniture stay clean – the base is closed, so any spilt wax stays inside the house.
  • It fits even on narrow surfaces – with a footprint of just 7.2 x 7.4 cm, a height of 14.1 cm and a weight of around 200 g. The house is compact and stands firmly.
  • You can put together a little village – each of the three models has its own façade. The windows, door and chimney sit in different places. The roofs are glazed in dark brown, ochre and reddish brown.

Why this ceramic lantern makes a difference every day

An open tealight gives light. A lit decorative house gives that light a shape. Instead of a single flame, you see a glowing façade with windows, a door and a chimney. It draws the eye and gives the room a calm focal point. In the darker months, you create a familiar scene in just a few steps. You can bring it back again and again through autumn, Advent and winter.

Material & finish

The lantern is made from earthenware and fired. The body is left unglazed and keeps the matt, pale tone of the earthenware. The roof has a coloured glaze and a glossy finish. Timber beams, window sills, door, chimney and roof tiles are modelled in relief. So the house works as a small object in daylight too, not only when a candle is burning inside. The windows are cut out, and the door is moulded closed. This way, the light comes out through the window openings. If you place the house with its open back facing the wall or window, the opening stays hidden. Earthenware is a natural material. Shade, glaze flow and fine surface texture vary from piece to piece. Each house is unique. This is not a flaw but part of the nature of ceramics.

How to use the house lantern

  • On the windowsill: Slide in a tealight and turn the open back towards the window. The house glows inside, and from the street it shows as a warm point of light in the darker months.
  • On the laid table: As a table light between the place settings, the compact house stays low. Your guests can still see each other across the table.
  • During Advent: Arrange all three houses as a little village on a sideboard, mantelpiece or windowsill. It becomes a familiar scene that returns every year.
  • In cafés, restaurants or hotels: A sturdy table light that is more distinctive than a glass lantern. The opening at the back makes refilling quick. With LED tealights, it is also suitable for continuous use.
  • In shops and shop windows: A cosy element for autumn and winter product displays that rounds off the presentation with care.
  • As a gift: A single house as a small token. Or the set of 3 as a whole village that tells a story as soon as it is unwrapped.

Good to know about the half-timbered house

Half-timbered houses have shaped Germany's old towns for centuries. The visible timber frame with pale infill panels still stands for home and cosiness today. The light house brings this familiar image in miniature to your windowsill and table. That is why it goes so naturally with autumn decorations, Advent and Christmas.

Care & durability

There is not much to do. Thanks to the closed base, wax residue stays inside the house. Once it has cooled, you can simply lift it out. Wipe off dust with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Use the lantern indoors, or outdoors only in a sheltered spot in dry weather – it is not frost-proof. This keeps the natural tone and glaze looking good for a long time.

Options & what's included

  • Dark brown model: house with dark brown glazed roof
  • Ochre model: house with ochre glazed roof
  • Reddish brown model: house with reddish brown glazed roof

Frequently asked questions

Can I use LED tealights too? Yes, the ceramic tealight holder is suitable for standard tealights in aluminium cups and for LED tealights. LED tealights are a good choice if the light is to stay on unattended for longer.

How does the tealight get into the house? Simply slide the tealight in through the 45 x 55 mm opening at the back. You swap it out just as easily – without lifting the house.

Is the lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes, in a sheltered outdoor spot in dry weather. However, it is not frost-proof. So it should not be left out in wet or frosty conditions for long periods.

Do all the houses look the same? No. Each of the three models has its own façade, with the windows, door and chimney in different places. As fired earthenware, the shade and glaze flow also vary from piece to piece. Each house is unique.

Picture the moment in the evening when you slide in a tealight. The windows light up warmly, and a dark November evening at home feels a little cosier. Simply choose your favourite model at Bütic – or go for the set of 3 for your own little village.
