It gets dark earlier outside, and you want things cosy inside. Often all that's missing is a small point of light on the table. This mushroom-shaped lantern is made for exactly that. You pop a tea light in at the back and light it. Warm light then falls through the tiny windows of the mushroom house onto your tablecloth, windowsill or sideboard. The ceramic tea light holder is made of fired stoneware with a glazed cap. It brings an autumn mood into your home without much decorating on your part.

What changes for you

  • Your table feels warmer straight away, because the tea light casts a calm, soft light forwards into the room through the small windows at the front.
  • You can fill the lantern easily, because the tea light goes in from the back. You don't need to lift or turn the mushroom.
  • You put it down and it stays put, because stoneware has real weight at around 200 g. The mushroom also stands on a wide base.
  • You'll find a spot for it anywhere, because at 11.7 cm tall the lantern fits on narrow windowsills, small trays and a laid table.
  • You can relax with children or pets in the house too, because an LED tea light fits inside just as well as a real one.

Why this hurricane glass makes a difference every day

A burning tea light on its own is just a flame. In the mushroom house it becomes a small glowing window that draws the eye. The room feels more homely in the evening and the laid table more inviting. You don't need elaborate autumn decorations for that. A mushroom suits autumn and harvest festival. It also suits Advent, woodland themes and simple natural decor. So the lantern can stay out for many months of the year.

Material & finish

The lantern is made of stoneware. This is fired clay with thick walls, and it feels pleasantly heavy in your hand. The cap is glazed with a slight sheen. It comes in dark brown, reddish brown or ochre. The body has a window and a door hinted at with a few lines. It stays unglazed and shows the matt, natural surface of the clay. This contrast is what gives the mushroom its character. Stoneware is a natural material and the glaze is applied by hand. So colour gradient, surface and firing marks vary slightly from piece to piece. That isn't a flaw. It makes every lantern a little one of a kind.

How to use the lantern

  • On the autumn table: Place the mushroom between conkers, leaves and small pumpkins. In the evening it glows as a calm point of light, and your laid table looks fully decorated straight away.
  • On windowsill and sideboard: Set one on its own or group three in all three cap colours. The room feels homely without any further decorations.
  • For harvest festival and Advent: Combine it with moss, cones and wood for a natural arrangement. Keep enough distance between the flame and any dry material.
  • In cafés, shops and at the counter: As table decoration that guests notice straight away. It's quick to set out in the evening and just as quick to clear away.
  • On patio and balcony: On mild evenings the mushroom gives warm light outdoors in a sheltered spot – as long as there's no rain or frost.
  • As a small gift: A little present, host gift or Secret Santa gift for anyone who loves woods and nature. Compact, sturdy and ready to use straight away.
  • Our tip for safe use: Place the lantern on a heat-resistant surface. Never leave the flame burning unattended. Keep it away from curtains and dried flowers. The glazed cap gets hot while a tea light is burning. Only touch the mushroom again once it has cooled down completely. Never put the flame out with water.

Good to know about the mushroom

In German-speaking countries the mushroom has long been a symbol of good luck. Like the four-leaf clover and the chimney sweep, it traditionally appears on greetings cards. So the mushroom house works not only as autumn decor. It also makes a small gift that wishes someone luck along the way.

Care & durability

There isn't much to do. Wipe off dust with a dry cloth. If needed, clean the glazed cap with a slightly damp cloth and dry it well afterwards. Only wipe the unglazed body dry, because unsealed stoneware absorbs moisture and stains. Let wax residue cool completely, then carefully remove it. Stoneware doesn't go in the dishwasher. It shouldn't stand in damp conditions for long and it isn't frost-proof. Bring the lantern indoors before winter and it will last you many seasons.

Frequently asked questions

Do LED tea lights fit in the lantern? Yes. The opening at the back is 6.5 cm wide and 5.5 cm high. Standard tea lights in aluminium cups and LED tea lights both fit inside.

Can the lantern stand outdoors? Yes, in a sheltered spot on a patio or balcony. But protect it from rain and frost, because stoneware isn't frost-proof.

Can the lantern go in the dishwasher? No. Wipe the glazed cap with a slightly damp cloth and the unglazed body only dry. It's best to avoid lasting moisture altogether.

Why does my mushroom look a little different from the photo? Stoneware is a natural material and the glaze is applied by hand. Small differences in colour gradient, surface and firing marks are intended. They make every piece one of a kind.

Does the lantern get hot? Yes, the cap gets very hot while a tea light is burning. After blowing it out, let the mushroom cool down completely before you move it.

Picture the evening: you dim the lights and the small flame flickers inside the mushroom house. Suddenly your table looks like autumn and home. Simply choose your favourite cap colour – or go for the set of 3 from Bütic for the whole windowsill.
