Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. In biology lessons, the double helix is drawn on the board. But it only becomes a real picture in your pupils' minds once they hold it in their hands. That is exactly what this DNA strand model made of HDF is for. It is a laser-cut cutout with the typical double helix outline. You can choose a size from 5 to 50 cm. Use it in lessons, as decoration for a surgery or practice, or for your next craft project. Either way, the molecule becomes something you can touch.
What changes for you
- You show the structure of DNA at a glance. The laser-cut outline depicts the double helix clearly and cleanly.
- You can design the cutout just the way you like. The HDF is untreated, so you can stick things on it, paint it or decorate it.
- You find the right size for every purpose. Choose anything from a small 5 cm decoration to a large 50 cm teaching object, in 1 cm steps.
- You can carry on working without sanding. The laser-cut edges are smooth.
- You can equip whole classes or group projects without extra effort. The cutout is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
Why this DNA strand model makes a difference in everyday life
Abstract topics stick better when you can touch them. A DNA strand on the pinboard, on the desk or in pupils' hands offers a different way in than any illustration. As a decoration in a lab, practice or study, the motif shows at a glance what the room is about.
Material & finish
The cutout is made of a 3 mm thick high-density fibreboard (HDF/MDF). It is sturdy enough for daily use in class and pleasantly light at the same time. Laser cutting leaves smooth edges. They feel good and are easy to work with. The surface is left natural, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints and glue stick to it reliably. Fibreboard always shows fibres of varying lightness and small textures. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece one of a kind. Every cutout is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the DNA strand
- In biology lessons: every pupil gets a cutout to label the base pairs. After the lesson, they really know how the molecule is built.
- In a practice or lab: hang a large one on the wall of the waiting area. The room shows at first glance what you stand for.
- Crafting with children: paint it, stick things on it, decorate it with glitter. At the end, a self-made molecule hangs in the child's bedroom.
- For model making or table decorations at the A-level biology leaving party: use small sizes as table scatter or place cards. It is a detail your guests are sure to talk about.
- As a gift idea for scientists: with your own lettering, the cutout becomes a personal gift for a passed exam.
Facts about DNA
The double helix structure of DNA was described by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953. Since then it has probably been the best-known symbol of science. That is why the motif works so well as a teaching object in class and as an emblem in labs and practices.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. Store the untreated cutout in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. Then it will keep its shape for a long time. If you paint or glaze it, the surface is protected as well.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the cutout or stick things on it? Yes. The HDF is untreated. It is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, varnishes and glue stick directly to the surface.
Are the edges smooth? Yes. The DNA strand is laser-cut, so it has smooth edges that you don't need to sand.
How wide is the cutout? The width depends on the height you choose. For example, at a height of 10 cm it is 5 cm wide.
Why do the cutouts look slightly different? HDF boards are made of pressed wood fibres. These can vary in lightness and show small textures. This is what makes every piece unique.
This fibreboard cutout helps with one thing above all. It turns an abstract formula into a picture you can hold in your hand. Just choose your size and quantity – you design the rest.
