This year you want a homemade advent calendar, the kids are already at the table with their pens – and all you need is a sturdy, colourful base. That's exactly what these coloured wooden cutouts in DIN A sizes are made for: coloured wood rectangles from A2 to A8, ready for painting, sticking and decorating. Instead of spending ages cutting and priming, you can simply get started.

What changes for you

  • You can start your craft project straight away, with no sawing or painting – because every cutout arrives with two coats of stain and cleanly laser-cut.
  • You'll find the right size for every idea, from a little tag to a shop window sign – thanks to seven sizes from DIN A8 to DIN A2.
  • You can relax while crafting with children – the stain meets the requirements of DIN EN 71-3.
  • Your decorations keep a natural character – because the stain lets the wood grain subtly shine through instead of covering it up.
  • You can design the back exactly as you like – it's natural and untreated, ideal for writing on or sticking things to.

Why coloured wooden cutouts make a difference in everyday life

A coloured rectangle of real wood feels different from paper or card. It stands up, it holds its shape, and the surface feels firm and smooth. Your homemade signs, money gifts or door decorations look finished and well thought out. They don't look quickly glued together. And because the grain shimmers through the colour, every piece brings a little bit of nature into your decorations.

Material & finish

Each cutout is made from 3 mm poplar plywood. It is light enough to hang up and sturdy enough to use as a base for signs and lettering. The front has two coats of a wood glaze. The back is left untreated. Laser cutting leaves smooth edges with the typical brown rim, so the cutouts look clean and finished. Wood is a purely natural material. Brightness, grain and small knots vary from board to board. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece one of a kind. The coloured wooden boards are made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden cutouts

  • Crafting with children: each child gets a small size to paint – and in the end, a colourful work of art made of real wood hangs on the fridge instead of a crumpled sheet of paper.
  • Making money gifts: arrange notes and a few kind words on an A5 cutout – and your gift has a sturdy, colourful frame that stays as a keepsake after the celebration.
  • Making Christmas decorations: Decorate small formats as gift tags or place cards. Your festive table then has handmade details that no shop-bought set has.
  • Making an advent calendar: number 24 small cutouts and hang them up – a calendar you can bring out again every year.
  • In model making: the smooth laser-cut rectangles work as coloured surfaces and base plates – precisely sized in DIN format, with no finishing needed.
  • In a shop or café: an A3 or A2 cutout as a base for price signs or lettering in the window – quick to write on, neatly presented and easy to redesign at any time.

Good to know about the DIN A format

The DIN A format follows a simple principle: each size is exactly half of the next size up, always with the same aspect ratio. That's why the cutouts combine so well – an A4 sign, two A5 boards beside it, small A7 cards in front, and everything looks like a matching set. Templates, prints and stencils in paper sizes fit too, with no converting.

Frequently asked questions

Is the colour safe for children's hands? The stain used meets the requirements of DIN EN 71-3 – so you can also use the cutouts when crafting with children.

Is the colour opaque? No, the stain is deliberately not a fully opaque paint. Depending on the light, the wood grain subtly shows through and gives every cutout its natural character.

Why do the edges have a brown rim? The boards are laser-cut. This creates smooth cut edges with the typical brown rim – a hallmark of clean laser work.

Are both sides coloured? No, the front is coated, while the back is left natural and untreated – so you can write on it, paint it or stick things to it as you like.

Do all cutouts look exactly the same? Wood is a natural material: brightness, grain and small knots vary slightly. That's exactly what makes every cutout one of a kind.

In the end, it's not about a piece of wood in the right size. It's about the afternoon when a coloured board becomes a gift, a sign or a little work of art – and you proudly hold it in your hands. Just choose your size and colour and get started.
