Why this MDF armadillo makes a difference day to day
When crafting with children, one thing matters most: a shape that sparks curiosity and turns out well. The armadillo does just that. It works at nursery, at school or at home on the kitchen table. Instead of cutting out templates by hand, you hold a ready-made, sturdy figure. So you can focus fully on decorating it. The result is a decoration that is truly your own.
Material & finish
The 3 mm high-density fibreboard (HDF/MDF) is sturdy and easy to work with. It doesn't warp when you paint it and feels solid in your hand. The laser cut gives a smooth edge all the way round. You can see and feel the clean finish on every edge. HDF is made from pressed wood fibres. So you will see fibres in lighter and darker shades and small irregularities in the texture. This isn't a flaw. It's a feature of a natural material and makes every piece unique. Every cutout is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the armadillo
- Crafting with children: every child paints their own armadillo. At the end, they proudly take home a figure they decorated themselves.

- For themes around exotic animals: combine several sizes to make a little armadillo family for the windowsill or shelf.
- In model making and decorating projects: the flat, sturdy silhouette can be covered, painted or built into scenes. It fits neatly alongside other elements.
- In a shop or at the market: the painted shape on the counter or in the window is a lovingly made detail that customers notice.
Facts about the armadillo
In German, the armadillo is named after the movable bands of armour that wrap around its body like belts. In Spanish it's called "armadillo", meaning "little armoured one". These typical bands are already marked as outlines on this cutout. That makes it an ideal base for bringing the shell to life with bright colours or patterns.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Store the untreated HDF in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. That way the board stays stable and flat. Once painted or varnished, the surface has extra protection and keeps its colour for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the armadillo already painted? No, the cutout comes to you untreated in its natural state. So you can paint, decorate or coat it however you like.
Are the edges smooth enough for little hands? Yes, the armadillo is laser cut. This gives it a smooth edge with no rough spots.
How tall is the figure at a given width? As a guide: at a width of 10 cm, the height is 8 cm. The proportions stay the same in every size.
Is the HDF suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, you should protect it from constant moisture. For outdoor use, we recommend an opaque coat of paint or varnish.
Why don't all the boards look exactly the same? HDF is made from pressed wood fibres, which can vary in shade. This natural texture makes every piece unique.
What counts is the moment a child holds up their finished armadillo and beams. Simply choose your size, singly or in a set. Then your next craft afternoon can begin.
