What changes for you
- You can start decorating straight away instead of cutting out by hand – the outline of Hesse is already cleanly laser-cut.
- Your decoration keeps its shape and colour. The sturdy bookbinding board is 1.2 mm thick and 755 g/m², so it doesn't warp easily.
- You decide the size, from a small gift tag to a wall decoration. You can choose any height from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- You can design it just the way you like. The untreated, smooth surface takes paint, varnish and glue well.
- You can craft with a clear conscience – the board is made from 100% recycled material.
Why this cardboard cutout makes a difference in everyday use
A recognisable shape gives any craft project a clear direction. A few dabs of paint turn it into a gift with a link to home. A piece of card becomes a finished wall picture. Instead of struggling with scissors and a template, you can focus on the fun part: decorating. And in the end you hold something that feels more personal than any shop-bought decoration.
Material & finish
The solid bookbinding-quality board feels sturdy in your hand. It copes with firmer work with a brush or glue. The surface is smooth. The edges are brown from the laser cut. This is typical and gives the outline a clear, clean line. The board is untreated, so you can glue, paint or varnish it straight away. Every cutout is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

- Money gifts: stick notes onto the outline and add a short message. Your gift for a move or a new job in Hesse tells a story straight away.
- Crafting with children: each child paints their own state. Along the way, they learn where Hesse is on the map of Germany.
- For a wedding or engagement: the painted outline on the guest table shows where the couple met. It gets people talking before the first drink.
- In a shop, café or at the weekly market: paint the outline with chalk paint and add lettering. It becomes a sign for regional products. Your customers can see at a glance where the goods come from.
- As wall decoration: combine several states and build up your own hand-made map of Germany for the living room or office, piece by piece.
Good to know about bookbinding board
Bookbinding board gets its name from bookbinding. For centuries it has formed the sturdy core of book covers, because it is firm and keeps its shape. That is exactly what helps you when crafting: the outline stays flat, even if you paint or cover large areas.
Care & durability
There isn't much to do. Store the cutout somewhere dry and protect it from constant moisture. Then the untreated board will keep its shape for a long time. For outdoor use, we recommend a protective coat of paint or varnish.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the cutout or stick things on it? Yes. The untreated solid board can be glued, painted and varnished. The smooth surface takes paint well.
How does the width relate to the height I choose? The proportions of the state outline stay the same. For reference: at a height of 10 cm, the cutout is 7 cm wide.
Why are the edges brown? The outline is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edges that give the shape a clear, clean line.
Can I use the board outdoors? Untreated, it is for indoor use. With an opaque coat of paint or varnish, you can also use it outdoors in a sheltered spot. Avoid constant moisture.
This piece of card is made for one moment. Someone unwraps your gift, recognises the familiar outline and thinks of home straight away. Just choose your height and quantity – and start decorating.
