This gives smooth edges and clean, accurate results, so the hexagons sit together without gaps. The raw boards are painted olive green on both sides. The clear, satin, water-based lacquer lets the grain and knots show through. Wood is a natural material. Brightness and texture vary from piece to piece, and small knots are normal. This makes every hexagon one of a kind – it is not a defect.
