Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The nativity stable is built and the walls are painted. Only the roof still looks bare. This is where these rectangular shingles in 3 mm poplar plywood come in. You lay them row by row, overlapping each one. Your model then looks like it has a classic tiled roof in miniature. They come in 28 sizes and various quantities, ready for your next craft project. Use them on a delicate Christmas pyramid or a large model house.
What changes for you
- Your nativity or model roof looks like real craftsmanship. Once laid, the rectangular wooden shingles look like classic roof tiles.
- You save yourself tedious cutting by hand. Every shingle is precisely laser-cut after you order and arrives ready to use.
- You decorate them exactly as you like. The untreated natural wood can be covered with paper, painted, varnished or oiled.
- You find the right format for every project. Choose from 28 sizes, from tiny to palm-sized.
- You work cleanly with no extra finishing. The laser-cut edges are smooth, and the thin pieces are easy to glue.
Why these rectangular shingles make a difference
The roof often decides whether a model looks like a quick craft job or careful handiwork. Individually laid shingles give your nativity stable, pyramid or bird house model depth and texture. Flat surfaces never look this lively. And because every piece is real wood, the result suits natural Christmas decorations and rustic scenes.
Material & finish
The shingles are made from poplar plywood approx. 3 mm thick. They are thin enough for delicate roofs and stay stable while you lay them. The laser cut leaves smooth edges with the typical brown rim. On a finished roof, this rim looks slightly weathered, almost aged. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint, stain and oil well. Every order is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. As a natural material, the wood varies in shade, has fine grain patterns and occasionally small knots. This makes every piece unique and your roof lively.

How to use the rectangular shingles
- Building a nativity scene in Advent: You cover the stable roof row by row. Suddenly the stable looks as if a carpenter had been at work.
- On a Christmas pyramid: Small shingles on the pyramid roof give it the look of real roof tiles in miniature. Your heirloom becomes even more worth looking at.
- In model making: Half-timbered house, mill or station building – choose a matching shingle size and the scale stays right. The roof gets a lively surface made of individual layers.
- Crafting with children or in a craft group: The pieces can be painted and decorated. Every house gets its own look.
- As a decorative element: You use the wooden pieces to cover boxes, frames or signs. They give them a natural, textured surface.
- For shop window or in-store displays: A small shingled roof above your product display quickly creates a winter scene. It makes customers stop and look.
Good to know about roof shingles
The shingle is one of the oldest roof coverings of all. Long before roof tiles, overlapping wooden pieces protected roofs from wind and weather. You can copy this overlapping technique in miniature. Start at the bottom edge of the roof and work your way up in staggered rows. Then your miniature roof looks like the real thing.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. In their natural state, the shingles are intended for indoor use and last for years there. If your project is going outdoors, such as a bird feeder or an outdoor nativity scene, treat the wood first, for example with oil. Keep the untreated wood away from constant moisture. Then the surface will stay looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the shingles or cover them with paper? Yes. The wood is untreated and in its natural state. You can cover it with paper, varnish it, paint it or oil it.
Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural form, for indoor use only. For outdoor use, the wood needs to be treated, for example by oiling it.
Why do the edges have a brown rim? This is the typical mark left by the laser cut. It means smooth edges and gives laid roofs a slightly rustic look.
Do all shingles look the same? No. Wood is a natural material with varying shades, fine grain and occasionally small knots. This is not a defect. It makes every roof unique.
Are the shingles made in advance? No. They are precisely laser-cut after you order, in the size and quantity you choose.
The best part comes when you lay the last row and step back. For the first time, your model has a proper roof over its head. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
