Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The nativity stable is on the workbench and the walls are finished. Only the roof still looks bare. With these oak leaf wooden shingles, you cover it row by row. Bit by bit, the shell becomes a little house that looks as if it has seen many winters. The delicate shingles are made from 3 mm poplar plywood. They are just right for your next model-making project – whether a nativity scene, a birdhouse or a miniature village.
What changes for you
- Your model roof looks like a real shingled roof. The shingles are laser-cut in an oak leaf shape and overlap neatly when you lay them.
- You'll find the right size for every scale, from tiny to hand-sized. There are 28 sizes to choose from, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm.
- You can design them just as you like: glue, paint, stain or oil them. The wood is delivered untreated in its natural state.
- No tedious cutting by hand. Every shingle is laser-cut to size after you order, with smooth edges.
Why these wooden shingles make a real difference
The roof often decides whether a model looks like a kit or like handwork. Individually placed shingles give your nativity scene, half-timbered house or Christmas pyramid real depth and texture. That's what makes people stop and look. The leaf shape also works beyond the roof. Use it as table scatter, as hanging decorations or as a craft piece for Christmas.
Material & finish
- Poplar plywood approx. 3 mm thick. Light enough for delicate models, sturdy enough for gluing and painting.
- Laser-cut cutout with smooth edges and the typical brown rim. It brings out the outline of each shingle.
- Untreated surface, not varnished or glazed. It reliably takes paint, wood stain, oil and glue.
- Wood is a natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary from piece to piece. This makes every shingle one of a kind – it is not a defect.
- Made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia, and carefully finished.

How to use the shingles
- Building a nativity scene in Advent: you lay the shingles row by row, overlapping on the roof. The stable gets the rustic roof that suits the scene.
- Model making: small sizes for houses in miniature scale, large ones for birdhouses or display pieces. You can build your project true to scale.
- Painting with children: each leaf is decorated individually. It then becomes an autumn or Christmas decoration for the window, a branch or a present.
- Christmas table decorations: scatter a few leaves between candles and fir sprigs. Your table is decorated with natural materials, with very little effort.
- In shops or cafés: use the wooden leaves as scatter decorations in shop windows and on counters in autumn and at Christmas.
Good to know about wooden shingles
Wooden shingles have covered roofs and walls for centuries, especially in the Alps and upland regions. They are usually laid in curved, decorative shapes. You can bring exactly this look to the scale of your model. A shingled roof makes a nativity scene or miniature house look traditional and handcrafted straight away.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Indoors, you can leave the shingles untreated and use them straight away. If your project is going outdoors, such as a birdhouse, treat the wood first, for example with oil. That way it will look good for a long time, even in wind and weather.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the shingles outdoors? In their natural state, they are only suitable for indoor use. For outdoor use, you need to treat the wood first, for example with oil.
Can I paint the shingles and glue things on them? Yes. The wood is untreated and takes paint, wood stain, oil and glue well. You can decorate it however you like.
Why do the edges have a brown rim? The rim is created during laser cutting and is typical of this cutting method. The edges are still smooth and cleanly cut.
Do all the shingles look the same? The shape is laser-cut precisely to size. The wood itself is a natural material, though. Shade and grain vary slightly, and small knots are normal. Every piece is one of a kind.
What counts is the moment you place the last shingle. You step back – and suddenly your model looks finished. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
