Why these wooden shingles make a real difference
A roof often decides whether a model looks like a quick craft job or like careful handiwork. When you lay shingle after shingle, you create the depth and texture that make classic roof tiles look so lifelike in miniature. Your nativity scene, model house or pyramid gets its finishing touch. And you get the moment when people take a closer look.
Material & finish
The shingles are made from approx. 3 mm thick poplar plywood. It is light, keeps its shape and is easy to work with. The laser cut gives smooth edges with the typical brown rim. On the finished roof, this rim gives a fine joint effect. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. In its natural state, it is suitable for indoor use. For outdoor use, treat it first, for example by oiling it. Wood is a purely natural material. Differences in shade, fine variations in the grain or small knots are normal and make every piece unique. The shingles are made to order in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the shingles
- On a Christmas pyramid: you cover the roof row by row, just like a real tiled roof. Then the pyramid stands on the Advent table with its finished roof.
- On a nativity scene: the stable gets a textured shingle roof. The whole scene immediately looks more detailed and cosier.
- In model making: you recreate classic roof tiles in miniature, on houses, towers or birdhouses. The 28 sizes let you work to scale.
- For creative projects: you paint or decorate the hexagons one by one. Use them as a mosaic, wall decoration or embellishment on gifts and cards.
- For workshops, schools or craft groups: you order larger quantities in one size. Everyone then works with identical, precisely fitting pieces.
Good to know about shingles
The shingle is one of the oldest forms of roofing. Long before fired roof tiles were available in every region, wooden shingles protected roofs and façades. You can recreate exactly this traditional look in miniature with the hexagonal shingles. Your model then looks not just decorated, but like a small piece of building history.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Indoors, the untreated shingles keep their shape for a long time if they are kept dry. If your piece is going outside, treat the wood first, for example with oil. This helps it withstand moisture. Avoid constant wet conditions with untreated wood.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or glue the shingles? Yes. The wood is untreated and left natural. Paint, glue, stain or oil adhere well to the surface.
Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural state, only for indoors. For outdoor use, the wood must be treated first, for example by oiling it.
Why do the edges have a brown rim? This is the typical rim left by the laser cut. It gives smooth edges and finely outlines each shingle on the finished roof.
Do all the shingles look the same? Wood is a natural material. Shade and grain vary slightly, and small knots are possible. The dimensions themselves are exact thanks to the laser cutting.
Hexagonal plywood is just the starting point. What counts is the moment you place the last shingle and take a step back. Suddenly your model looks finished. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
