Why these wooden shingles make a difference
A roof often decides whether a model looks like a craft project or a small work of art. Real wooden shingles instead of painted lines give your nativity stable, pyramid roof or miniature house texture, shadow and character. You choose the size and quantity yourself. So you can cover your whole roof. No hoarding leftovers and no reordering before the Christmas crafting season really gets going.
Material & finish
Each shingle is made of 3 mm poplar plywood. It is light enough for delicate roofs and keeps its shape when glued. The laser cut gives smooth, clean edges with the typical brown rim. On the finished roof, this creates finely drawn joint lines. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. So it reliably takes paint, stain, oil and glue. As a natural material, poplar wood varies in shade. It shows fine grain structures and occasionally small knots. This is not a flaw. It is what makes every piece unique.

How to use the shingles
- On a pyramid roof: glued on row by row, staggered. Your Christmas pyramid turns beneath a roof that looks like a roofer's work in miniature.
- On a nativity scene: the stable gets a shingled roof. Your nativity landscape looks handmade and lovingly crafted at a glance.
- In model making: with 28 sizes, you can roof houses and buildings to the right scale. From a small garden shed to a large scale model.
- As decoration: painted or covered, single shingles become hanging ornaments, name tags or table scatter for Advent.
- Outdoors: treat the wood before using it outside, for example with oil. This keeps your birdhouse or garden decoration roof looking good for a long time.
Good to know about segment shingles
The segment shape with its rounded lower edge comes from the classic beaver-tail roof tile. It has shaped roofs in Germany for centuries. Your miniature roof follows the same pattern as its full-size models.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. In their natural state, the shingles are meant for indoor use and last there without further care. If your piece is going outside, treat the wood first. For example, oil it or give it an opaque coat of paint. That way the roof keeps its shape in wind and weather.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or cover the shingles? Yes. The poplar wood is untreated and takes paint, stain, oil and glue well.
Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural form, for indoor use only. For outdoor use, the wood needs to be treated, for example by oiling it.
Why are the edges brown? The shingles are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown rim. On the finished roof it gives a finely drawn look.
Do all the shingles look the same? Wood is a natural material. Shade and grain vary, and small knots are normal. That is exactly what makes every roof unique.
Are the shingles made in advance? No. They are laser-cut to size after you order, in our own production in Pößneck.
Segment-shaped plywood is only the material. What counts is the moment you lay the last row of shingles and step back. Suddenly your model looks finished. Simply choose the size and quantity that suit your roof.
