Why these wooden shingles make a real difference
A roof made of individual shingles changes the whole look of a model. Instead of a smooth surface, you get texture, depth and the feel of real handwork. When the nativity scene goes up at Christmas or the pyramid stands on the table, this is the detail people look at. And while you craft, it is simply fun to work row by row and watch the roof grow.
Material & finish
The shingles are made of poplar plywood approx. 3 mm thick. It is light, keeps its shape and is easy to work with. Laser cutting leaves smooth edges with the typical brown rim. This gives each shingle a rustic look. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint, glue and oil well. Wood is a natural material, so every shingle turns out slightly different. You may see variations in shade, fine patterns in the grain and small knots. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece unique. The shingles are made to order in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the wooden shingles
- Building a nativity scene in Advent: you cover the stable row by row. When the nativity scene goes up at Christmas, it looks like the work of an old craftsman.
- On a Christmas pyramid: with shingles on the roof, your pyramid gets the fine detail you usually only see on elaborate collector's pieces.
- In model making: houses, huts and barns get a roof to scale. Simply choose the size that suits your model.
- For decorations: painted, written on or decorated, the shingles become small hanging ornaments and embellishments. A rewarding craft wood for children and adults alike.
- For workshops, craft groups and schools: thanks to the quantity options, you order exactly as many shingles as your class or project needs. No offcuts and no cutting.
Good to know about roof shingles
Wooden shingles are among the oldest roof coverings of all. In many Alpine regions and low mountain ranges, they still define traditional houses and church towers today. That is why shingle roofs on nativity scenes, pyramids and model houses match the historical originals so well. They bring a piece of real craft tradition to your project.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. In their natural state, the shingles are meant for indoor use and will last for many years there. If your piece is going outside, such as a nativity scene by the front door, treat the wood first, for example by oiling it. This protects the surface and keeps the fine finish intact for a long time.
