Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The nativity scene is set up and the houses are built. But your miniature world only comes to life with a properly tiled roof. With these wave-shaped wooden shingles, you can roof nativity scenes, Christmas pyramids and model houses yourself, row by row. A flat surface becomes a roof that looks like the real thing, just smaller. If you want to buy wooden shingles that suit your model-making project, you can choose from 28 sizes here.
What changes for you
- Your miniature roof gets the look of classic roof tiles. At a small scale, the wave shape creates exactly this effect.
- You'll find the right scale for every project. There are 28 sizes to choose from, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm.
- You can start building straight away, with no sanding. The laser-cut edges are smooth and cleanly cut.
- Your shingles fit exactly, because they are laser-cut to size after you order.
- You can finish the surface however you like. The untreated poplar plywood can be covered, painted, varnished or oiled.
Why these wooden shingles make a real difference
The roof decides whether a model looks homemade or real. Lay the wave-shaped shingles so they overlap. Row by row, you build up a texture with depth and shadow. Your nativity stable, Christmas pyramid or miniature house suddenly looks lived-in. You choose the size and quantity yourself. So you don't have to build around a fixed set. You can carry out your own plan.
Material & finish
The shingles are made from poplar plywood approx. 3 mm thick. It is light, keeps its shape and is easy to glue. The laser cut leaves smooth edges with the typical brown rim. On a finished roof, this gives fine outlines and an almost rustic look. The wood is left natural, neither varnished nor glazed. Colour and grain vary from piece to piece, and small knots are part of it. That makes every roof one of a kind. The shingles are made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia, with clean, careful finishing.

How to use the shingles
- Building a nativity scene in Advent: you roof the stable shingle by shingle. The nativity scene then looks as if it has been in the family for generations.
- On a Christmas pyramid: with wave-shaped shingles on the roof, your pyramid looks like a little house with real roof tiles.
- In model making: a half-timbered house, a mill or a decorative birdhouse. With the right shingle size, the scale is correct and the model looks true to scale.
- For decorating and painting: you colour the shingles before laying them. That way you get a roof in brick red, slate grey or any colour you like.
- For shop windows and store displays: a small shingle-roofed house in the window makes people stop and look. You choose the quantity, so you order exactly as many shingles as your display needs.
Good to know about roof shingles
Wooden shingles are one of the oldest ways to cover a roof. Long before fired tiles became common, they protected houses, churches and towers. The wave shape picks up the curved look of classic roof tiles on a small scale. That's why nativity scenes, pyramids and miniature houses roofed with them look so familiar and real.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Left natural, the shingles are meant for indoor use and stay looking good there for a long time. If your piece is going to stand outside, treat the wood first, for example by oiling it. That protects it from the weather, and you'll enjoy your roof for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the shingles outdoors? In their natural state, they are only suitable for indoor use. For outdoor use, treat the wood first, for example by oiling.
Can the shingles be painted or covered? Yes. The wood is untreated and takes paint, glaze, oil and glue well.
Where does the brown rim on the edges come from? It forms during laser cutting and is typical of laser-cut wood. The edges are still smooth and clean.
Do all the shingles look the same? Wood is a natural material. Shade and grain vary, and small knots are normal. This makes your roof look lively and natural.
Are the shingles made for stock? No. They are laser-cut to size after you order, in our own production in Pößneck.
What counts is not the plywood or the wave cut. It's the moment you place the last shingle and step back. Suddenly your model looks as if you could move in. Just choose the size and quantity that suit your project.
