The nativity stable is built, but the roof is still bare. And you can already picture it with small wooden shingles: laid row by row, just like a real roof. That's exactly what these zigzag shingles are made for. Precisely laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood, they look like tiny roof tiles. Your bare structure gets a proper roof. Your guests will want to take a second look at it over Christmas.

What changes for you

  • Your nativity or model roof looks as if it had really been shingled. The zigzag shape creates the typical shingle pattern when you lay the pieces so they overlap.
  • You'll find the right size for every project without cutting anything yourself. Choose from 28 sizes, from 15 mm x 7.5 mm to 150 mm x 75 mm.
  • You can start decorating straight away, just as you like. The wood is untreated. You can glue things onto it, paint designs on it, give it a coat of paint or oil it.
  • You work with clean material instead of frayed edges. Every shingle is laser-cut. It has smooth edges and the typical brown rim, which looks like a natural patina.
  • You get exactly the quantity you need. Thanks to the quantity selection, nothing is left over. And you won't find yourself a row short at the end.

Why these wooden shingles make a real difference

In model making, the roof often decides whether a house looks like a craft project or like careful handiwork. With evenly laser-cut shingles, your nativity scene, Christmas pyramid or model house gets a calm, detailed look. Row by row, neat and even. And because the wood is untreated, the finished roof is all yours: your colour, your glaze, your style.

Material & finish

The shingles are made of poplar plywood approx. 3 mm thick. They are light enough for delicate roofs and sturdy enough to glue on row by row. Laser cutting gives precise, smooth edges and a clean finish. Every shingle is made to order in our own production in Pößneck – made in Thuringia. Wood is a purely natural material. Its shade varies, it shows a lively grain and it may have small knots. That makes every piece unique. And your roof looks more lifelike than any plastic sheet.

How to use the shingles

  • Building a nativity scene in Advent: you lay the roof from bottom to top so the shingles overlap. The stable looks as if a carpenter had built it.
  • On a Christmas pyramid: small shingle sizes cover the roof finely and evenly. The pyramid then fits into your festive table setting as a carefully finished detail.
  • In model making: a half-timbered house, a mill or a birdhouse for a diorama? As miniature roof shingles, these cutouts bring your scale model to life.
  • Crafting with children or in a craft group: everyone paints their own shingles. In the end, the shared little house has a colourful roof.
  • For shop decorations and window displays: decorative houses roofed with shingles give your Christmas display a handcrafted look. They are quick to set up and can be reused every year.

Good to know about shingles

Wooden shingles are among the oldest roof coverings of all. They still shape the look of many houses in the Alps and in Germany's low mountain ranges. Just like on full-size roofs, miniature shingles are laid from bottom to top, staggered and overlapping. This creates the typical roof pattern. It makes your nativity scene or model house look authentic.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. In their natural state, the shingles are best kept indoors. Stored somewhere dry, they keep their shape and colour for a long time. If your project is going outside, treat the wood first, for example with oil. This protects it from moisture.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the shingles or glue things onto them? Yes. The poplar plywood is untreated and takes paint, glaze, oil and glue well. You can decorate it to suit your project.

Are the shingles suitable for outdoor use? In their natural form, for indoor use only. For outdoor use, the wood needs to be treated, for example by oiling it.

Why do the edges have a brown rim? This is the typical rim left by laser cutting. It comes with this cutting method. It also gives you smooth, clean edges with no need for finishing.

Do all shingles look exactly the same? The shape is precisely laser-cut, but the wood itself is a natural material. Shade, grain and small knots vary. That makes every roof unique.

How many shingles do I get? You choose the size and quantity yourself. The shingles are delivered in the pack size you selected.

Picture the moment you lay the last row of shingles and step back. Suddenly your nativity scene looks as if it had stood there for generations. Simply choose the right size and quantity for your project.
