Why this cardboard cutout makes a difference day to day
Everyone recognises an island silhouette at once. Its distinctive shape brings to mind the sea, chalk cliffs and holidays. Use it on its own in the hallway or as part of a maritime display. The Rügen outline shows at a glance that it was made by hand and not taken from a mass-produced range. And because you design it yourself, it carries your own handwriting.
Material & finish
The solid bookbinding-quality board feels pleasantly sturdy in your hand. It does not warp as quickly as thin card when you paint it. The surface is smooth and untreated, so paints, glue and varnish stick well. Bütic laser-cuts the outline in our own production in Pößneck. This leaves the typical brown edges around the cutout. It is made in Thuringia, Germany, and neatly finished.

- For a wedding on the island: use small Rügen outlines as place cards or as tags on wedding favours. Your guests will know straight away where the celebration is.
- For a birthday or an engagement: write names and a date on the cutout. You give a keepsake that exists only once.
- For holiday flats, cafés or shops on the coast: arrange several sizes in a row. They make a window or counter display with a clear local link. It is quick to set up and easy to change again.
- Crafting with children: colour it in, stick things on, decorate it with shells. At the end of the afternoon, everyone holds their own island picture.
Good to know about the Isle of Rügen
Rügen is Germany's largest island. It is famous for its white chalk cliffs, which inspired paintings by Caspar David Friedrich. This distinctive coastline is part of the cutout's silhouette. That makes it a good holiday souvenir, a guest gift with an island link or a local decoration for anyone who feels close to the Baltic Sea.
Care & durability
There is not much to do. Store the cutout in a dry place and keep it away from moisture. Untreated cardboard does not like water. Used indoors in dry conditions, it keeps its shape for a long time. A coat of paint or varnish makes the surface more resistant.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint and decorate the cutout? Yes. The smooth, untreated surface takes paints, varnish and glue well. You can paint, varnish, decorate or write on the outline.
Is the cardboard suitable for outdoor use? The cardboard is untreated and should stay dry. Indoors it lasts a long time. Outdoors, only use it in a sheltered spot and for a short time.
How tall is the cutout at the width I choose? The height depends on the shape of the island. At a width of 10 cm, it is 8.5 cm tall. Larger widths follow the same ratio.
Why are the edges brown? The outline is laser-cut, which creates the typical brown edges. This is not a defect. It is part of the production process and gives the cutout a brown rim.
Is the material environmentally friendly? The bookbinding board is made from 100% recycled material and is produced in Thuringia.
This cardboard cutout is about a moment. You see your island on the wall – and for a second you feel the Baltic wind again. Simply choose your size and quantity and get started.
