Both versions are sturdy and robust enough for busy service. On the birch plywood versions, the surface is sealed with a durable water-based clear varnish. The wood looks refined and is easy to clean, even when the menu passes through guests' hands many times a day. Wood is a natural material. Shade, texture and grain vary, and small knots are typical.
