Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The craft afternoon is about to start. Paints, brushes and glue are laid out on the table. All that's missing is a motif to go with traditional dress, Oktoberfest or a Bavarian evening. This dirndl silhouette in HDF is made for exactly that. It's a smoothly laser-cut wooden cutout in its natural state. You can paint it, stick things on it or decorate it however you like. A plain board becomes your very own decoration – from a small hanging tag to a large shop window motif.
What changes for you
- You can start painting or decorating straight away, with no sanding first. The cutout is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
- Your decoration fits your project exactly. You choose any height from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- You decorate the motif entirely to your own taste. The HDF is untreated, so it takes paint, varnish or glue directly.
- You can easily supply larger groups too, for example when crafting with children or in a club. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available.
- You get clean, careful finishing from our own production. Every cutout is made by Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.
Why this dirndl silhouette makes a difference
Shop-bought decorations often look the same everywhere. A motif you design yourself tells your own story. Paint the silhouette in bold traditional colours, cover it with fabric scraps or leave it plain and natural. Either way, the result is unmistakably yours. With just a few steps, you create a decoration that suits the occasion and doesn't look generic.
Material & finish
The cutout is made from 3 mm thick HDF/MDF fibreboard. It's sturdy enough to stand up, hang and decorate, yet easy to work with. Laser cutting leaves smooth edges. So you can pick up the motif and start decorating straight away. The board is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. The pressed wood fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This makes each piece one of a kind and is not a defect. Made in Thuringia, Germany. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the dirndl silhouette
- Crafting with children: Each child paints their own dirndl. At the end, a colourful garland full of one-of-a-kind pieces hangs in the room.
- For an Oktoberfest party: Use small silhouettes as glass tags or place cards. Your guests find their seats and take home a keepsake.
- In model making: The traditional dress motif fits into your scenery. You don't have to saw it out yourself.
- In the window of a bakery, café or traditional clothing shop: A large motif up to 50 cm high gets noticed from the street. It puts customers in the mood for the festival season. Quick to design, quick to set up.
- As a gift tag or small present: Add a dirndl with a name or message to the parcel. The gift looks lovingly prepared rather than quickly wrapped.
Good to know about the dirndl
The dirndl was originally simple workwear for maids in the Alpine region. Only towards the end of the 19th century did it become the festive traditional dress known from folk festivals today. That's why the silhouette suits any occasion around traditional dress and customs – from Oktoberfest to traditional costume clubs and Bavarian-themed parties.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Store the cutout in a dry place and keep it away from lasting moisture, as the untreated fibreboard absorbs water. Painting or varnishing the motif gives the surface extra protection. That way, your decoration stays looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the dirndl silhouette or stick things on it? Yes. The HDF is untreated. You can paint it, glue things on, decorate it or give it a coat of paint directly.
Do I need to sand the edges? No. The cutout is laser-cut, so it has smooth edges. You can start designing straight away.
How wide is the motif? The width depends on the height you choose. For example, at a height of 10 cm it is 9.5 cm wide.
Why do the boards look different? HDF boards are made from pressed wood fibres. These vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is typical of the material and makes every piece unique.
Is the cutout suitable for outdoor use? The board is untreated and should be protected from lasting moisture. For outdoor use, we recommend a protective coat of paint.
A fibreboard in a dirndl shape is only the starting point. What counts is the moment your own motif hangs on a glass, a gift or in the window. Everyone can see that someone enjoyed making it. Just choose your height and the number of pieces. The rest is up to you.
