Why this MDF kingfisher makes a difference day to day
A ready-cut motif takes care of the tedious part and leaves you the fun part: decorating. Forget the fretsaw and sandpaper. Just decide how to finish your kingfisher. Paint it in bright blue, decorate it with napkin decoupage or hang it in the window in its natural state. That's how an idea becomes a decoration that suits you and your home, with no detours.
Material & finish
The kingfisher is made from 3 mm HDF/MDF fibreboard. The densely compressed wood fibres make the flat cutout stable and easy to work with. Laser cutting gives smooth, clean edges that don't fray or splinter. The surface is untreated, so neither varnished nor glazed. That makes it ideal for painting, gluing and decorating. Good to know: fibreboard naturally shows fibres of varying lightness and may have small irregularities. This isn't a defect. It makes every piece one of a kind.

How to use the kingfisher
- Crafting with children: each child paints their own bird. At the end, they proudly take home a piece of art they made themselves.
- For your window decoration: hang several kingfishers in different sizes. It brings a touch of nature into your living room.
- In model making: the small sizes from 5 cm fit into dioramas and landscapes without dominating them.
- Making Christmas decorations or your own cards: a small kingfisher as a hanging ornament or card decoration turns a greeting into a little gift.
- In shops, cafés or at the market: large silhouettes up to 50 cm help structure shop windows and counters. They're quick to put in place and effective. With set quantities, costs are easy to plan.
- In craft classes or at school: with sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces, every participant gets the same blank. You save preparation time and everyone starts together.
Good to know about the kingfisher
Since ancient Greece, the kingfisher has been seen as a bringer of good luck. The phrase "halcyon days" comes from it. It means calm, peaceful days in the middle of winter. With its distinctive profile, the kingfisher still stands for nature, calm and water today. So the motif isn't just for craft sessions. It's also a gift idea for nature lovers and anglers, or for nature-inspired interiors.
Care & durability
There isn't much to do. Keep the untreated cutout dry and away from constant moisture, as fibreboard absorbs water. A dry cloth is enough for dusting. Painting or varnishing the kingfisher gives the surface extra protection. That way your decoration stays looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the kingfisher or stick things on it? Yes. The HDF is untreated and left in its natural state. You can paint it, glue things on and decorate it however you like.
Is the cutout suitable for outdoor use? The board is untreated and shouldn't be exposed to constant moisture. For outdoor use, we recommend a protective coat of paint. The kingfisher lasts best when kept dry.
Why don't all the cutouts look exactly the same? HDF/MDF is made from compressed wood fibres. These can vary in lightness and show small irregularities. That's exactly what makes each piece unique.
How wide is the kingfisher at a given height? As a reference: at a height of 10 cm, the width is 7 cm. All other sizes are in proportion.
Do I need to sand the edges? No. The kingfisher is laser-cut, so its edges are smooth from the start. You can begin decorating right away.
A bird-shaped piece of fibreboard is only the starting point. In your hands, a plain blank becomes a small one-off piece. And maybe someone will ask where you bought it. Just choose your size and quantity. You design the rest.
