The cutout is made from 3 mm thick HDF. It is laser-cut in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia. That's why the edges are evenly smooth and the finish is clean. You can feel it as soon as you pick it up. The surface is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils adhere well. You decide how the finished piece looks. HDF is made of pressed wood fibres. These fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is not a defect. It makes every piece a one-off made from natural material. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.
