The silhouette is laser-cut from 3 mm HDF/MDF fibreboard. This gives it smooth edges and a flat surface that paint and glue hold well on. The board is untreated, with no varnish or glaze. So you can start straight away without sanding first. HDF is made from compressed wood fibres. It always shows slightly different textures: some fibres are lighter, some darker, and there may be small specks now and then. This makes every piece one of a kind. It is not a flaw but part of the material. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.
