Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.Halloween is just around the corner. The kids want to get crafting. And this year the window should offer more than a few shop-bought garlands. A Frankenstein head made of HDF is just right for your craft afternoon. You paint it, stick things on it or decorate it however you like. And at the end, there's Halloween decor in your home that really comes from you.
What changes for you
- You make your own Halloween decorations instead of buying ready-made ones. That's because the HDF is untreated and can be painted, decorated with stick-ons or oiled.
- You'll find the right size for every idea, from a small hanging decoration to a large window picture. Choose any height from 3 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- Your crafting afternoon starts without any prep work. The edges are laser-cut and smooth – no sanding, no cutting.
- You can also kit out larger groups, for example when crafting with children at a Halloween party. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available.
- You get clean, careful finishing from our own production. Every cutout is made by Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.
Why this Frankenstein head makes a difference in everyday life
Decorations you make yourself tell a different story from mass-produced ones. Your windows, your table and your party decorations show your own hand. A ready-made blank takes the tedious part off your hands. You don't have to saw or trace anything. You can get straight on with the fun part. A free afternoon becomes a shared project with a result you can see.
Material & finish
The cutout is made from 3 mm MDF or HDF. This is a high-density fibreboard made of pressed wood fibres. It keeps its shape and feels pleasantly smooth in your hand. Laser cutting creates precise outlines with the typical brown edge, which gives the shape a handmade look. The surface is untreated, not varnished and not glazed. That's why paints, glues and oils adhere reliably. As a natural material, the wood fibres vary in shade and may show small imperfections. This makes every piece one of a kind – it isn't a flaw.

How to use the Frankenstein head
- Crafting with children before Halloween: everyone paints their own head in green, grey or neon. The finished figures go up in the window that same evening.
- As table decoration for a Halloween party: put a small figure at each place. Your guests have something to smile about before the first bite.
- In model making or a ghost train set: the flat 3 mm cutout can be glued, slotted and built into scenes without adding bulk.
- For a money gift with a wink: stick a folded banknote onto the head. Your gift for the spooky party will be remembered.
- In a café, a bakery or at a market stall: painted heads in several sizes decorate the counter and shop window during the Halloween season. With sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces, you can decorate the whole area in one go.
Good to know about Frankenstein
Strictly speaking, in Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, “Frankenstein” is the name of the creator, not the monster. In everyday use, though, the name has long meant the iconic figure with the square head. Because it is so easy to recognise, the shape is ideal for Halloween. Even painted plainly in one colour, every guest knows straight away who is looking out of the window.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Keep the untreated cutout dry and away from constant moisture. It will then keep its shape for many Halloween seasons. A coat of paint, varnish or oil gives the surface extra protection. Your decorations will look good year after year.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the Frankenstein head? Yes. The HDF is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. You can coat it, paint it, stick things on it or oil it.
Why does the cutout have a brown edge? The shape is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown laser edge with smooth sides. It is a feature of the process, not a fault.
Do all cutouts look the same? The shape is identical. However, the wood fibres of the HDF vary in shade and may show small imperfections. As a natural material, every piece is one of a kind.
Which size suits my project? You choose the height between 3 and 50 cm in 1 cm steps. As a guide: at a height of 10 cm, the head is approx. 7.5 cm wide.
Are there quantities for larger crafting groups? Yes. As well as single pieces, sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available. They suit children's groups, school classes or shop decorations.
This cutout is about more than MDF. It's about the moment the children proudly hang their own painted monsters in the window. And Halloween feels like yours. Simply choose the height and quantity and get started.
