Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The nativity scene is set up and the candles are lit. But between the stable and the star, one figure is still missing – one you can design yourself. That's exactly what this Holy King V1 made of HDF is for. It's an untreated wooden cutout. You can paint it, decorate it with stickers or leave it natural. Just choose what suits your Christmas decorations. That way, a plain blank becomes a piece that really is your own.
What changes for you
- You can design your nativity scene just the way you like it. The HDF is untreated and can be painted, glued or decorated.
- You get clean results with no extra work. The laser cut leaves smooth edges that do not splinter or fray.
- Your decoration always fits the space you have. You choose the height from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps – from the windowsill to a large nativity scene.
- Planning a craft session with family, a school class or a group is easy. The king is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
- You are holding a piece from our own production. Every cutout is made by Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.
Why this wooden king makes a difference
Christmas decorations you make yourself say more than ready-made ones. Anyone looking at your nativity scene sees colours and details that only you have. The king fits on the Advent table, in a wreath or in the window. And because you choose the size yourself, the figure never looks lost or too bulky. It is just right for its spot.
Material & finish
The king is made from 3 mm thick HDF/MDF fibreboard. It's sturdy enough to handle safely while crafting. It's also light enough for windows, wreaths and branches. The laser cut gives smooth edges and a clean finish, so paint and glue stick well. The board is left natural. It is not varnished and not glazed. The pressed wood fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This makes every piece one of a kind and is not a defect. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the Holy King
- For your own nativity scene: paint the king in shades of gold and red. Your nativity scene gets a figure that exists only once.
- On an Advent afternoon with children: each child decorates their own king. At the end, a whole crowd of colourful figures stands on the table.
- As Christmas decoration on the windowsill, wreath or branch: put up a few kings in different sizes. Your window says Christmas even before the tree is up.
- In model making: the flat cutout fits into nativity landscapes and dioramas without adding bulk.
- For nurseries, parishes or shops: with the set of 25, 50 or 100, you can supply craft activities and seasonal window displays in one go. Same shape, same quality, no reordering in the middle of Advent.
About the Three Kings
The Three Kings – traditionally called Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar – have been part of the nativity tradition for centuries. In many places, their feast day on 6 January marks the end of the Christmas season. So the cutout is not only for Advent decorations. It also suits carol singers' events and any crafts around Epiphany.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Store the king in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. Untreated HDF doesn't like water. That way it keeps its shape for many Christmases. Once painted or glazed, the surface is also better protected.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the king or glue things onto it? Yes. The HDF is untreated and takes paint, glaze and glue well. It's ideal for crafting, painting and decorating.
Are the edges ready for crafting? Yes. The cutout is laser-cut, which gives it smooth edges. You do not need to sand or finish them.
Why do the surfaces not all look the same? HDF boards are made of pressed wood fibres. These can vary in shade and show small irregularities. This is typical of the material and makes every piece unique.
Is the cutout suitable for outdoor use? The material is untreated and should be kept away from moisture. It is best used indoors or in a sheltered, dry place.
