Material & finish

The heart is made from 3 mm thick HDF/MDF fibreboard. It is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The laser cut gives smooth edges and a clean finish. It feels pleasant in your hand and has no rough spots. The board is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paint and glue stick directly, with no prep work needed. Fibreboard is made from pressed fibres, so some fibres may be lighter or darker and small irregularities are possible. This is not a defect. It makes every piece unique. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the MDF heart

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or decorate the heart? Yes. The MDF surface is untreated, so paints, stains and glue adhere directly without any pre-treatment.

How big is the hole? The hole is 3 mm in diameter – suitable for thin ribbons, cords or wire.

Are light and dark patches in the material normal? Yes. HDF/MDF is made from pressed wood fibres that can vary in shade – so every piece turns out slightly individual.

How do width and height relate to each other? Height and width are the same: if you choose a width of 10 cm, the heart is also 10 cm high.
