Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. It's Advent Sunday. The children are sitting at the kitchen table with their brushes. This year, a nativity scene of your own making is going to stand on the windowsill. This baby Jesus silhouette made of HDF is made for exactly that. It's an untreated wooden cutout for your craft table. You can paint it, decorate it with stickers or simply display it in its natural finish. In a short time, a plain blank becomes your own Christmas decoration.
What changes for you
- You design your nativity scene to suit your home. The MDF/HDF is untreated, so you can paint it, stick things on it or oil it.
- Your motif always fits its setting, from a small window decoration to a large backdrop for the nativity play. You can choose the width from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
- No tedious sawing or sanding. The laser cut gives you smooth edges and a clean outline, ready to use straight away.
- Larger projects are easy to supply too, such as a craft group or your parish. The silhouette is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.
- You get a recognisable detail: the typical brown edge from the laser frames the motif and defines its outline. No finishing needed.
Why this baby Jesus silhouette makes a difference
At Christmas, the best decorations often don't come ready-made out of a box. They're made at your own table. With the baby Jesus as a blank, you have a starting point that takes care of the groundwork. The creative part is left to you. In the window, in the crib or as part of a scene around the Holy Night: the motif shows the sleeping child as a clear silhouette. There are none of the extras that often clutter mass-produced decorations.
Material & finish
The silhouette is laser-cut from 3 mm MDF or HDF. This gives you a stable board with smooth edges that is easy to paint and decorate. The material is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils adhere directly to the surface. HDF is made of highly compressed wood fibres. The fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is not a defect. It makes every piece a one-off made from a natural material. The cutout is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

How to use the baby Jesus
- At the craft table during Advent: give each child a silhouette and a few paints. An hour later, homemade Christmas decorations are hanging in the window.
- As a window decoration for the Holy Night: painted or left natural, it creates a quiet scene. In the evening, with the light behind it, it shows as a dark silhouette on the glass.
- For the nativity play at church or school: in a large width, the motif becomes a backdrop. With sets of up to 100 pieces, you can supply a whole group.
- In your own crib: add a detail to your scene of Jesus' birth and the stable in Bethlehem. You won't find another one quite like it.
- For model making and all kinds of decorations: embellish the cutout, stick things on it or combine it with other motifs. The smooth laser-cut edges fit in neatly.
- For shops, cafés or market stalls: as part of your Advent window or counter display, the motif is quick to set up. Its clearly recognisable nativity motif fits into your seasonal display.
Good to know about the baby Jesus
Depicting the baby Jesus in the manger has been part of Christmas tradition for centuries. According to tradition, Francis of Assisi created the first re-enacted nativity scene in 1223. The silhouette follows on from this tradition: as a figure for your own crib, as a window decoration or as a backdrop for the nativity play.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Store the untreated cutout somewhere dry and keep it away from constant moisture. That way the natural material stays stable and your decoration looks good for many Christmases. Painting or oiling the surface gives extra protection.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint or decorate the baby Jesus? Yes. The MDF/HDF is untreated and neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint it, stick things on it or oil it.
Why does the silhouette have a brown edge? The cutout is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edge, which frames the motif neatly. The edges are smooth and don't need sanding.
How tall is the figure at a given width? For reference: at a width of 10 cm, the height is 8 cm. The proportions stay the same for all sizes.
Do all the cutouts look exactly the same? The shape is identical, the surface is not. HDF is made of compressed wood fibres. These can vary in shade and show small irregularities. Every piece is a one-off.
Is the silhouette also available in larger quantities? Yes. As well as single pieces, you can order sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces. These are ideal for craft groups, parishes or shop displays, for example.
A simple wooden cutout becomes your own nativity scene in the window. And Christmas feels a little more personal. Just choose your width and quantity. You design the rest.
