Material & finish

The pumpkin is laser-cut from 3 mm HDF/MDF fibreboard. This gives a smooth, clean edge and a flat surface that holds paint and glue well. The board is left natural. It is neither varnished nor glazed, so you can start straight away with acrylic paint, napkin decoupage or pens. Good to know: the pressed wood fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is typical of the material and makes every piece one of a kind. It is not a defect. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, just more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the pumpkin with hat

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do. Because the HDF is untreated, it's best to store the pumpkin in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. That way the surface stays flat and your painted piece will last for many autumns. If you want to display the pumpkin outdoors, protect it with an opaque coat of paint or a sealant.
