Material & finish

The moon is made from 3 mm HDF. This is a board of pressed wood fibres that keeps its shape and feels pleasantly smooth. Laser cutting gives clean, smooth edges that don't splinter. So children can safely join in with the crafting. The material is untreated, with no varnish or glaze. Paints, glues and oils stick directly to the surface. As with any wood-based material, the shade can vary slightly. The texture may also show small irregularities. That makes every piece one of a kind. The cutout is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the MDF moon

• Making lanterns in autumn: glue the small moon onto the lantern paper. During the lantern procession, your moon glows from inside.
