Why this MDF puzzle piece makes a difference in everyday life
A good blank takes care of the tedious part. It leaves you the fun part: creating. You don't need to cut wood or finish the edges. You just sit down and begin. That could be crafting with children, preparing a gift idea or making wall art from several pieces. At the end, you hold something that exists only once.
Material & finish
The puzzle piece is made from 3 mm thick HDF/MDF fibreboard. It is fine enough for clean outlines and sturdy enough to hang up, stand up and decorate. Laser cutting gives smooth edges without splinters, so children can work with it too. The board is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That makes it ideal for painting, colouring and sticking things on. Good to know: pressed wood fibres always show slight differences in shade and texture, and sometimes small inclusions. This makes every piece one of a kind and is not a defect. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays sturdy even when thin.

How to use the puzzle piece
- Making Christmas decorations: each family member paints one piece. In the end, they all come together as one shared picture on the wall.
- For a wedding or christening: guests write their wishes on individual puzzle pieces. The couple keeps a guest book with a difference.
- For homemade money gifts: stick a note and a message onto the piece. Instead of an envelope, you give something people will remember.
- In model making: the thin, dimensionally stable cutout works as a base plate or building element. It is cleanly laser-cut and needs no finishing.
- At nursery, school or in a café: with a set of 25, 50 or 100 pieces you can equip whole groups. Or you can create a join-in wall. The quality is consistent, and the pieces are quick to hand out.
Good to know about puzzles
The jigsaw puzzle goes back to the London mapmaker John Spilsbury. In the 18th century, he cut maps mounted on wood into pieces to teach children geography. So from the start, the puzzle was a wooden object for learning and joining in. That is why the puzzle shape still works so well for group projects today: many pieces, many hands, one result.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. Store the untreated HDF somewhere dry and keep it away from constant moisture. That way it keeps its shape and you can decorate it whenever you like. Once it's painted or sealed, you'll enjoy your finished piece for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Is the puzzle piece treated or varnished? No, the HDF/MDF board is left natural. It is neither varnished nor glazed. This means paints, pens and glue take well.
Do I need to sand the edges before crafting? No, the laser cut leaves the edges smooth already, so you can start right away.
Why don't all the pieces look exactly the same? HDF boards are made of pressed wood fibres. These can vary in shade and show small irregularities. This is typical of the material and makes every piece unique.
Which sizes and quantities can I order? You choose a width between 5 and 50 cm in 1 cm steps. You can order singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
A fibreboard in the shape of a puzzle piece is only the starting point. What counts is the afternoon of painting, sticking and laughing at the kitchen table. And the piece that hangs proudly on the wall afterwards. Just choose your size and quantity and get started.
