The craft table is set. Paints and brushes are ready. All that's missing now is a blank to work with. This MDF square with 2 holes one above the other is wood with holes for hanging, joining and decorating. It's made for your next craft afternoon. Paint it, stick things on it or write on it. The simple shape becomes your own piece of decoration.

What changes for you

  • You can hang up your finished decoration straight away or thread several squares into a garland. That's thanks to the two 3 mm holes, centred one above the other.
  • You can follow your own idea, because the wood is untreated. You can paint it, glue things to it, coat it or oil it.
  • You don't need to sand anything, and there's no risk of splinters for little hands. The laser-cut edges are smooth. The corners are rounded with a 5 mm radius.
  • You'll find the right size for every project – from 3 cm to 50 cm wide, in 1 cm steps.
  • You can plan bigger activities with ease. You can order singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.

Why this MDF square makes a difference in everyday life

With a ready-made blank, you go straight to decorating. There's no sawing, sanding or drilling first. The clear square shape gives your idea a calm frame. Use it as a hanging tag, a name sign or part of a larger decoration. That way a free afternoon turns into something you can hang up and show.

Material & finish

The square is made from 3 mm thick HDF and laser cut in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. Laser cutting leaves the typical brown edge. Many craft projects suit this edge well. HDF is a fibreboard made from pressed wood fibres, so the material always shows slightly different textures. Some fibres are lighter, some darker, and there may be small impurities. This makes every piece one of a kind. It is not a flaw. The surface is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils stick to it well. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays sturdy even when thin.

Dimensions & technical details

  • Material: HDF (high-density fibreboard), untreated
  • Material thickness: 3 mm
  • Shape: square with 2 holes one above the other (2-hole square)
  • Hole diameter: 3 mm, both holes centred one above the other
  • Corner radius: 5 mm (rounded corners)
  • Width: 3 cm to 50 cm, selectable in 1 cm steps
  • Height: same as the width (so 10 cm wide means 10 cm high)
  • Cut: laser-cut, smooth edges with typical brown rim
  • Made in Thuringia, Germany

How to use the MDF square

  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own square. You thread a ribbon through the holes. By evening, the first homemade garland is hanging in the children's room.
  • If you want to make Christmas decorations: join several squares one below the other, then write on them or stamp them. Now you have a hanging decoration for a door, window or branch.
  • Make your own Advent calendar: paint numbers on 24 small squares and hang them on a wooden strip. Each morning there's one fewer to go.
  • Making money gifts: decorate the square and fix the banknote through the holes. The gift looks like more than just an envelope.
  • For Mother's Day or Father's Day: make a Mother's Day gift that lasts. A painted square with a name or date, hung on a ribbon, keeps the moment in mind for years.
  • In a shop, café or at the weekly market: use the squares as hanging signs you can write on, for shelves or stalls. Prices and varieties are quick to swap. Your display stays tidy.

Good to know about MDF and HDF

HDF is made from finely pressed wood fibres. So it has no continuous grain and no knotholes. The surface is even and can be laser cut very cleanly. For you, this means paints go on smoothly and evenly. Even small sizes keep their exact outline. That is why the material is so popular as a craft blank. You can use it for anything from children's projects to a sign at a market stall.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Store the squares in a dry place and keep them away from constant moisture, because the material is untreated. If you paint, varnish or oil the surface, you give it extra protection. That way your decoration stays the way you made it for a long time.

Options & what's included

  • Width freely selectable from 3 cm to 50 cm, in 1 cm steps
  • Available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100
  • The MDF square is delivered in its natural form, untreated – ribbons, paints and other decorations are not included

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the square or stick things on it? Yes. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint it, glue things to it, coat it or oil it.

How big are the holes and where are they? Both holes are 3 mm in diameter and are centred one above the other. They're ideal for threading ribbons or string.

Why do the edges have a brown rim? The square is laser-cut. This leaves the typical brown rim on the smooth cut edges. It's a feature of the process, not a fault.

Do all squares look exactly the same? The shape is identical. But the fibreboard naturally has fibres of different shades and small irregularities. Every piece is one of a kind.

How tall is the square if it's 10 cm wide? Also 10 cm. Width and height are always the same for this shape.

With this square, a piece of HDF with two holes becomes your finished idea, hanging in front of you. Painted, threaded and exactly as you imagined it. Just choose your width and quantity and get started.

Your legal guarantee rights

EU notice “Legal guarantee”: Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union. Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods do not match the description or do not function as intended. Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer free repair or free replacement; in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement. Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year. For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code or ask the seller: europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees. What to do if you receive non-conforming goods: 1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue. 2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement. Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
