Why this wooden cutout makes a difference every day
With a ready-made blank, your project starts with the fun part: designing. There's no need to trace and cut out templates. You just get going. That works for crafting with kids, preparing themed decorations or decorating gifts. In the end, everyone holds a shape that looks exactly the way they imagined it.
Material & finish
The rat is laser-cut from 3 mm thick MDF or HDF. These are high-density fibreboards. They keep their shape and feel pleasantly smooth. Laser cutting creates the typical brown edge. It gives the figure a finely drawn outline. The surface is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. That's why paints and glue stick well. Wood fibre is a natural material. Its shade can vary and it may show small irregularities. This makes every piece one of a kind. Every rat is made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

- In model making: the flat 3 mm shape fits into dioramas and scenes. You can choose the width freely, so it fits your scale.
- For Halloween or themed decorations: put several rats in different sizes on a window or wall. Your backdrop is ready in a few minutes.
- For pet shops, vet practices or craft classes: with a set of 25, 50 or 100, you can decorate a shop window or waiting area or equip a whole craft workshop. The pieces are uniform, cost-effective to prepare and quick to set up.
Good to know about the rat
In the Chinese zodiac, the rat is the first of the twelve signs. It stands for cleverness and skill. So the shape isn't just a craft figure. It also makes a small birthday gift for anyone born in the Year of the Rat. Or it can be a tribute to your own pet rats at home.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. Store the untreated rat in a dry place and keep it away from constant moisture. Then the fibreboard keeps its shape. If you want to use it outdoors, give it a protective coat of paint or oil first. That way you'll enjoy your piece for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the rat or glue things onto it? Yes. The MDF/HDF is untreated. You can paint it, oil it, glue things onto it or decorate it in other ways. Paints stick well to the natural surface.
Where does the brown edge come from? The rat is laser-cut. This creates the typical dark edge along the cut. It's a feature of the process and clearly brings out the outline.
How big is the rat at a given width? As a reference: at a width of 10 cm, the height is 9 cm. The other sizes scale accordingly.
Do all cutouts look exactly the same? The shape is identical, but the material is natural. Wood fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This makes every piece one of a kind.
Is the rat suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, it's meant for indoor use. For outdoor use, you should paint or oil it first. This protects the fibreboard from moisture.
What you get is a rat-shaped piece of fibreboard. What it becomes is your idea – painted, decorated with glued-on bits, given as a gift or used as decoration. Just choose your width and quantity. You design the rest.
