Your craft afternoon is planned. The paints are ready. Now all you need is a blank to work on. This MDF rectangle with an oval opening is made for your craft table. It has a clear shape and a smooth surface. You can paint it, decorate it or write on it, just as your project needs. Make a door sign, a money gift or Christmas decorations. The plain cutout becomes a piece that is all your own.

What changes for you

  • You can start straight away, with no sanding or preparation. The cutout is laser cut and has smooth edges.
  • Your paints, varnishes and glues hold reliably. The wood is unfinished, so it is neither varnished nor glazed.
  • You get exactly the size your project needs. Choose a width from 6 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Your result looks clean and well planned. The rectangle and the oval opening are made in a fixed 2:1 ratio.
  • You can plan with confidence, even for several pieces. The finish is consistent because everything comes from our own production.

Why this wooden cutout makes a difference every day

With a ready-made blank, your project starts at the fun part: decorating. No sawing, no measuring, no reworking. The shape is right there in front of you, waiting for your idea. So a free afternoon ends with a finished sign, a frame element or a small gift. You don't get stuck in the preparation.

Material & finish

This cutout is made from 3 mm HDF. We laser it in our own production in Pößneck. That is where the typical brown edge comes from. It gives the piece a handmade look. The surface is left untreated and takes paint, oil and glue well. So you can paint, glue or decorate it without a coating getting in the way. Wood is a natural material. Small differences in texture are normal and make each piece one of a kind. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

Dimensions & technical details

  • Material: HDF (high-density fibreboard)
  • Material thickness: 3 mm
  • Shape: rectangle with oval cutout
  • Width: 6 cm to 50 cm, selectable in 1 cm steps
  • Ratio: 2:1 (example: a width of 10 cm gives a height of 5 cm)
  • Cut: laser cut, smooth edges
  • Surface: untreated, not varnished or glazed
  • Made in Thuringia, Germany

How to use the MDF rectangle

  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own rectangle. At the end, a home-made name sign hangs on the bedroom door.
  • Making money gifts: decorate the frame around the oval opening and show off the banknote. It's a gift that stays in the memory longer than an envelope.
  • For Christmas decorations: paint several small rectangles, write on them and hang them up. Your window tells its own little story.
  • As a mount or frame element: place a photo behind the oval opening. The plain cutout becomes a personal keepsake.
  • In a shop or café: put a labelled rectangle on the counter or shelf. Your offers are clearly marked, and setting up takes just a few minutes.

Good to know about MDF and HDF

HDF stands for high-density fibreboard. It is made from finely broken-down wood fibres. That is why it has no continuous grain and no knots. This is exactly why crafters like it. Paint covers evenly. The laser cuts clean, precise outlines that are easy to work on further.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. The wood is unfinished, so it is best kept dry and protected from constant moisture. Want to use it for a long time or wipe it clean? Simply paint, varnish or oil the surface as you like. That way your piece stays looking good for a long time.

Options & what's included

  • Choose any width from 6 cm to 50 cm in 1 cm steps
  • All sizes in a fixed ratio of 2:1 (width to height)
  • You receive the unfinished MDF cutout. Paints and decorations shown in the product photos are not included

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the cutout or glue things onto it? Yes. The HDF is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, varnishes, oils and glue stick directly to the surface.

Why are the edges brown? The cutout is laser cut. This creates the typical brown edge. It is part of the process and also gives smooth, clean edges.

How tall is my rectangle at a given width? The rectangles are made in a 2:1 ratio. For example, if you choose a width of 10 cm, the height is 5 cm.

Do all pieces look exactly the same? Wood is a natural material and always shows slight differences in texture. That makes each piece one of a kind.

This piece of HDF is the start of your own project. Soon you will hold your finished piece in your hands. Painted, decorated, just the way you imagined it. Simply choose your width between 6 and 50 cm and get started.

Sellers in such a situation are required to offer free repair or free replacement; in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement. Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.
