Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. An afternoon at the kitchen table. Paints and brushes are ready, and the children can't wait to get started. Now you need a blank that's up to the job. These MDF rectangles with rounded corners and 2 holes are made for your next craft idea. You paint them, stick things on or write on them. Then you thread a string through the holes. And the plain wooden shape becomes a tag, a door sign or part of your garland.
What changes for you
- You can hang up your finished pieces straight away. Thanks to the two opposite holes of Ø 3 mm, you need neither a drill nor glue.
- You can link several rectangles in a row to make garlands or name signs. The holes sit in the centre of the long sides, so everything hangs straight.
- Your result feels pleasant and looks neat, even in children's hands. The corners are rounded with a 5 mm radius, and the laser-cut edges are smooth.
- You decorate the surface just the way you like. The wood is untreated and can be painted, decorated with stickers, coated or oiled.
- You'll find the right size for every project. Choose from 3 x 1.5 cm to 50 x 25 cm, individually or in sets for larger craft groups.
Why these MDF rectangles make a difference every day
Many craft ideas fail at the cutting stage. Sawing, sanding, drilling holes – all before the fun part even begins. With ready laser-cut rectangles, you go straight to decorating and get results faster. Christmas crafts with the children, a Mother's Day gift with a personal message or details in model making: you have a reliable base shape. Every piece turns out just as neat.
Material & finish
The rectangles are made from 3 mm HDF and are laser cut. This gives them smooth edges and the typical brown rim, which outlines each piece with a fine contour. HDF is a fibreboard made from pressed wood fibres. So the material shows fibres in lighter and darker shades and small irregularities. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece one of a kind. The cutouts are made in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia, and are cleanly finished. HDF is a wood fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the MDF rectangles
- Crafting with children: each child paints their own sign. In the evening, they proudly hang it on their bedroom door.
- Christmas crafts: you write on small rectangles to make gift tags. Every present under the tree then shows the recipient's name.
- For gifts of money: attach banknotes to the rectangle with string and add a name. And you have a gift that doesn't look like an envelope.
- For Mother's or Father's Day: a saying, a heart, a ribbon through the holes. You hand over something homemade that lasts longer than a bouquet of flowers.
- In model making: the precisely laser-cut base shape with its fixed 2:1 ratio fits in neatly. You don't need to sand it afterwards.
- In a shop, café or at a market stall: write on it and hang it at the counter as a price tag or notice board. Your goods look lovingly presented. And you can quickly swap the sign when needed.
- As a garland: link several rectangles with string or wire through the holes. Letter by letter, you create your lettering for a birthday or shop window.
Good to know about MDF and HDF
HDF is made from finely pressed wood fibres, so it has no continuous grain. The surface takes paint evenly. No knots or grain show through. That is why the material is so popular for crafts and model making: your design ends up looking just the way you painted it.
Care & durability
There's not much you need to do. As the wood is untreated, it's best kept in dry indoor areas. Avoid constant moisture. If you want to hang the rectangles outdoors, simply paint or oil them first. That way, your decorations stay looking good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the rectangles or stick things on them? Yes. The HDF is untreated. You can paint it, decorate it with glued-on pieces, coat it or oil it. The paint sticks directly to the surface.
Where exactly are the holes? The two Ø 3 mm holes sit opposite each other in the centre of the long sides. They're ideal for hanging and for linking several rectangles with ribbon, wire or string.
Why are the edges brown? The rectangles are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown rim. It also makes the edges smooth, so they don't need sanding.
Are the rectangles suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, they're intended for indoor use. For outdoor use, paint them or seal them in another way first.
Do all pieces look exactly the same? The shape and dimensions do. The fibreboard itself, however, shows fibres in lighter and darker shades and small irregularities. This is typical of the material and makes every piece one of a kind.
A rectangle of HDF is only the starting point. What matters is the moment a plain wooden shape becomes your door sign, your garland or a handmade gift that someone keeps for a long time. Just choose your size and quantity. Then get started.
