Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong. The craft table is set. Paints and brushes are ready. All you need now is the right base. That is exactly what these MDF wood rectangles with rounded corners are made for. They have smooth surfaces and gently rounded edges. You choose the size freely, from 2 x 1 cm to 50 x 25 cm. So your next project doesn't start with cutting and sanding. It starts straight away with the fun part.
What changes for you
- You can get started right away instead of sawing first. Every rectangle is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck and arrives with smooth edges.
- Your signs, tags and decorations look friendly all round. The corners are rounded with a 5 mm radius, so there are no sharp edges.
- You design it however you like. The untreated HDF can be painted, decorated with stickers or glue-on pieces, coated or oiled, just as your project needs.
- You'll find the right size for every project. Choose from a small 2 x 1 cm tag size up to a large 50 x 25 cm surface, in 1 cm steps.
- You won't run out when crafting with children or working on larger projects. You can order them individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
Why these MDF rectangles make a difference in everyday use
Making Christmas decorations, creating money gifts or building a part for a model: many projects don't fail because of the idea. They fail because the right blank is missing. With a ready laser-cut rectangle in exactly the size you want, this step disappears. You can focus on colour, lettering and design. The result looks more thought-through, because all the pieces have the same clean shape.
Material & finish
The rectangles are made from 3 mm HDF and are laser cut. That's why they have the typical brown edge along the cut, which frames many projects nicely. The surface is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint and glue well. As a pressed wood fibre board, the material naturally shows fibres of varying lightness and small irregularities. This makes every piece unique and is not a defect. They are made in Thuringia, Germany, with clean, careful finishing. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the MDF rectangles
- Christmas crafts with children: each child paints their own small rectangle. In the end, a whole row of handmade decorations hangs on the tree.
- For money gifts: write a name and the occasion on a rectangle and stick the note on the back. An envelope turns into a gift you'll enjoy handing over.
- In model making: use the 3 mm thick material as a base plate, intermediate floor or facade part. It fits in neatly, because the size and shape are already right.
- As a door sign or name sign: once painted and lettered, it welcomes guests right at the door. The rounded corners make it look finished and friendly.
- In a café or at a market stall: hand-lettered rectangles work as price tags or variety labels. They give your counter a uniform, tidy look. And you can quickly redo them when needed.
Good to know about MDF and HDF
HDF stands for high-density fibreboard. Wood fibres are pressed so finely that you get an even surface without knots and without a pronounced grain. That's exactly why crafters and model makers like it so much. Paint, lettering and fine designs show up calmly and clearly on the smooth surface.
Care & durability
There isn't much you need to do. As the HDF is untreated, it's best to store it somewhere dry and keep it away from constant moisture. If you want to use it long term or display it outdoors, simply seal the surface with paint, varnish or oil. That way your design will look good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the rectangles or stick things on them? Yes. The HDF is untreated and can be painted, decorated with stickers or glue-on pieces, coated or oiled.
Why do the edges have a brown rim? The rectangles are laser-cut. The brown rim is typical of this cutting method, and it also gives you smooth edges.
Can I combine length and width freely? The rectangles are made in a fixed 2:1 ratio. You choose the length in 1 cm steps, and the width follows from it. A length of 10 cm gives a width of 5 cm.
Do all pieces look exactly the same? Shape and size are identical. The fibre structure can vary slightly in lightness and show small irregularities. This is typical of the material and makes every piece one of a kind.
Are the rectangles suitable for outdoor use? Untreated, they belong in dry indoor spaces. Sealed with varnish, paint or oil, you can also use them outdoors in a sheltered spot.
A piece of HDF is just the starting point. The best part is the moment a smooth surface becomes your sign, your tag or your gift. And you hold it in your hands, happy with the result. Simply choose your size and quantity. Our own production at Bütic takes care of the rest.
