A name tag for gift wrapping, a tag for a gift of money or a small sign on the Advent wreath. Often the one thing missing is a blank you can tie ribbon or string to straight away. These MDF rectangles have rounded corners and a ready-made hole. They are made for your craft table. You thread, you hang, and you can focus on the design. No sawing or drilling – you start right away with your idea.

What changes for you

  • You can hang up or tie on your tags straight away. The 3 mm hole sits centrally on the left short side.
  • You can paint, decorate or write on the rectangles straight out of the box. The HDF is untreated, so it takes paint, varnish or oil well.
  • Your finished piece looks clean and neat. That comes from the smooth laser-cut edges and the corners rounded to a 5 mm radius.
  • You'll find the right size for every project. Choose from small tags at 3 x 1.5 cm up to large signs at 50 x 25 cm, in 1 cm steps.
  • Planning bigger craft sessions or orders is easy. The rectangles come singly and in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.

Why these MDF rectangles make a difference every day

With a ready-made blank, your project starts where the fun is: designing. Maybe you want to make Christmas decorations. Maybe you label gifts by hand. Or you need price tags in one uniform size for your shop. The rectangles give your ideas a reliable base. All pieces share the same aspect ratio. So several tags side by side look even and consistent.

Material & finish

The rectangles are made of 3 mm HDF, a board pressed from wood fibres. The fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is not a defect. It makes every piece one of a kind. All rectangles are laser cut, so they have the typical brown edge. The wood is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. This means you can decorate, paint or oil it however you like. The cutouts are made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. They are cleanly finished, and you can rely on that with every order. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays sturdy even when thin.

Dimensions & technical details

  • Material: HDF (high-density fibreboard), untreated
  • Material thickness: 3 mm
  • Shape: rectangle with rounded corners (5 mm radius) and 1 hole

  • Aspect ratio: 2:1 – at 10 cm length, the width is 5 cm
  • Cut: laser-cut, smooth edges, characteristic brown laser edge
  • Made in Thuringia, Germany

How to use the MDF rectangles

  • For money gifts: write on a small rectangle and thread ribbon through the hole. The envelope gets a personalised tag that people remember.
  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own door sign. In the evening they proudly hang it on their bedroom door.
  • Christmas crafts: a name tag for every parcel under the tree. Nobody mixes up the presents.
  • Model making: cut base plates and signs in exactly the same size. You save yourself sawing, sanding and drilling.
  • In a bakery, café or market stall: labelled rectangles as price or product signs on the counter. Customers recognise your goods at a glance and your display looks tidy.
  • At weddings or family parties: a tag with a name at every place. Your guests find their seat before you have to explain.

Good to know about MDF and HDF

HDF is made of finely pressed wood fibres, so it has no grain direction like solid wood. For you, this means the rectangles won't splinter while you work on them. They also take paint evenly. That's ideal if you need lots of tags or signs that all look the same.

Care & durability

There isn't much to do. Store the untreated rectangles somewhere dry and avoid constant moisture. Then they keep their shape for a long time. A coat of paint, varnish or oil lets you finish and protect the surface as you wish.

Options & what's included

  • Sizes from 3 x 1.5 cm to 50 x 25 cm (length x width), length selectable in 1 cm steps
  • Aspect ratio always 2:1 – the width follows from the length you choose
  • Available singly and in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100
  • Contents: MDF rectangles in the chosen size and quantity, untreated and undecorated

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the hole? The hole is 3 mm in diameter. It sits centrally on the left short side of the rectangle. That way the tag hangs straight.

Can I paint or decorate the rectangles? Yes. The HDF is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. You can paint it, stick things on it, coat it or oil it.

Why do the edges have a brown rim? The rectangles are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown laser edge on the smooth sides. It is a feature of this production method.

Do all rectangles look exactly the same? The dimensions are consistent, but the fibre structure varies slightly. Fibres may differ in shade and show small irregularities. That is exactly what makes each piece unique.

What is the aspect ratio? All rectangles are made in a 2:1 ratio. If you choose a length of 10 cm, for example, the width is 5 cm.

A wooden cutout with a hole is only the starting point. What counts is the moment your finished tag hangs on the gift. It says exactly what you wanted to say. Simply choose the size and quantity for your project. You design the rest.

Your legal guarantee rights

EU notice “Legal guarantee”: Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union. Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods do not match the description or do not function as intended. Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer free repair or free replacement; in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement. Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year. For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code or ask the seller: europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees. What to do if you receive non-conforming goods: 1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue. 2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement. Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
