The craft table is set and the paints are ready. The children can't wait to get started. A wooden pig blank made of HDF is just right for this. It has a clear shape that you can paint, stick things on or simply hang up as it is. A plain board becomes your own farmyard decoration or a little lucky charm.

What changes for you

  • You can get started straight away, with no sawing or sanding – because the pig is laser-cut and has smooth edges.
  • Let your ideas run free. The untreated HDF can be painted, glued and decorated just the way you like.
  • You'll find the right size for every project – from 5 cm for gift tags to 50 cm for shop window or wall decorations, available in 1 cm steps.
  • Planning bigger activities is easy, as the design is available individually or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces.

Why this wooden pig makes a difference every day

A ready-cut shape takes care of the tedious part and leaves you the fun bit: creating. Whether at the kitchen table with the children, while preparing your New Year's Eve decorations or when dressing your shop – you're holding a clean, sturdy shape and only need to think about colour and ideas. With very little effort, you end up with a piece that truly reflects you.

Material & finish

The pig is made from 3 mm thick HDF/MDF fibreboard. Bütic laser-cuts it in our own production in Pößneck, Thuringia. The edges are smooth and the finish is clean, so nothing needs reworking. The board is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paint and glue adhere well, and you decide on the surface yourself. HDF is made of pressed wood fibres. So each piece shows fibres in different light shades and small irregularities. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece one of a kind. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the MDF pig

  • Crafting with children: each child paints their own pig – and at the end, a whole colourful herd lines up on the windowsill.
  • In the children's room: combined with other animal shapes, your farmyard theme gradually takes shape on the wall or shelf.
  • For New Year's Eve and New Year: a little lucky pig on a present or at each place setting – and your guests start the new year with a smile.
  • In model making: as a figure or part of the scenery, the shape blends into your scene and can be painted to match exactly.
  • In shops, cafés or at the weekly market: use larger designs in the shop window or on the counter. They're quick to hang up and easy to swap with the seasons. If needed, you can order them as a set for several branches or stalls.

Good to know about the pig

For centuries, Germans have said “Schwein gehabt” (literally "had a pig") when someone has had an unexpected stroke of luck – and so the pig remains one of the best-known symbols of good luck to this day. That's exactly why this shape is perfect not only for farmyard decorations, but also as a lucky charm for New Year's Eve, New Year or as a little gesture any time.

Care & durability

There's not much you need to do. Store the untreated HDF somewhere dry. If needed, simply wipe it with a dry cloth. Avoid constant moisture and wet, as the untreated fibreboard absorbs water. Use it indoors or seal it with paint or varnish after decorating. Then you will enjoy your motif for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint or decorate the pig? Yes. The MDF surface is untreated, so paints, varnishes and glues adhere well – you can paint the shape, stick things on and decorate it however you like.

Do I need to sand the edges? No. The shape is laser-cut and therefore has smooth edges, so you can start decorating straight away.

Why do the pieces look slightly different? HDF/MDF is made from compressed wood fibres, which can vary in lightness and show small irregularities. That's exactly what makes every piece one of a kind.

Is the shape suitable for outdoor use? The board is untreated and should be protected from prolonged moisture. For outdoor use, we recommend treating the shape yourself with weatherproof paint or varnish.

Which size suits my project? As a guide: at a width of 10 cm, the pig is approx. 5.9 cm tall. All other sizes keep the same proportions, available in widths from 5 to 50 cm.

In the end, it's not about a piece of fibreboard in the shape of an animal. It's about the moment a plain blank becomes your very own lucky pig – painted, given as a gift or hung up. Just choose your size and quantity, and you design the rest.
