Material & finish

The silhouette is made of 3 mm thick HDF/MDF fibreboard. It's sturdy enough to stand up, hang or decorate, yet easy to work with. Laser cutting gives smooth edges that don't fray or splinter. The board is untreated, so it is neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glue and pens adhere well, and you decide on the finish yourself. Good to know: HDF boards are made of pressed wood fibres and always show slightly different textures. Some fibres are lighter, some darker, and there may be the odd small irregularity. This isn't a defect. It makes every piece unique. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.
