Advent has begun and the table is set. Yet a figure is still missing at the window, on the wreath or on your homemade Advent calendar. This is where the HDF Christmas elf comes in. It's an untreated wooden cutout that you can paint, stick things onto or leave natural, just as you like. It's made for your Christmas decorations. A simple figure becomes a piece that really suits your home.

What changes for you

  • You make your own Christmas decorations instead of buying mass-produced ones. The Christmas elf arrives untreated, so you can paint it, glue things on or decorate it.
  • You can craft with children in a relaxed way, with no rough edges to snag on. The laser-cut edges are smooth.
  • You'll find the right size for every spot, from a small gift tag to a large window figure. You choose the height freely from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • You can supply larger craft groups, school classes or decoration projects in one go. Sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces are available.
  • You can rely on consistent quality. Every cutout is made in our own production at Bütic in Pößneck, Thuringia.

Why this Christmas elf makes a difference

Homemade Christmas decorations tell more of a story than bought ones. The elves you painted with your children on an Advent Sunday hang in the window. Each time, they remind you of that afternoon. Instead of a finished figure, you hold a shape that only gets its character from you. That's how you get Christmas decorations you unpack again year after year, because there's a story attached.

Material & finish

The Christmas elf is laser-cut from 3 mm HDF/MDF fibreboard. This gives it clean, smooth edges. It feels nice in your hand and is ready to decorate straight away. The board is untreated, neither varnished nor stained. Paint, glue and pens stick directly to the surface. As a pressed wood fibreboard, HDF always shows varying textures. Fibres may look lighter or darker and can have small irregularities. This isn't a flaw. It's part of the material, and every piece is unique. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, only more densely compressed. This makes it harder, and it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the Christmas elf

  • Crafting with children on an Advent weekend: everyone paints their own elf. In the end, a whole colourful band of elves hangs in the window.
  • As a tag on Christmas presents: a small elf with a name on it. The parcel under the tree instantly feels personal.
  • In the elf door corner or on the advent wreath: the elf moves in. Every morning, the children discover a new little scene.
  • In a café, bakery or at a market stall: several elves in graduated sizes decorate the counter and shop window. They're quick to set up and match in style. Thanks to the sets, they're also economical for large areas.
  • For model making and creative projects: decorate the figure, glue things on or combine it with other cutouts. Build your own Christmas world.

Good to know about the Christmas elf

Christmas elves go back to the Scandinavian tradition of house elves. According to the stories, they secretly help around the house during Advent and leave little surprises. That's why the elf fits so well with customs like the elf door or the advent calendar. It's a figure that makes children's eyes light up every day.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Keep the untreated elf dry and protect it from constant moisture. Then it will be with you for many Advent seasons. After Christmas, simply put it in your decorations box and bring it out again next year.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paint the Christmas elf and stick things onto it? Yes. The HDF is untreated and neither varnished nor stained. Paint, pens and glue stick directly to the surface.

Are the edges smooth enough for crafting with children? Yes. The elf is laser-cut, so it has smooth edges without rough cut surfaces.

Why do the cutouts look slightly different? HDF is made of pressed wood fibres. These can vary in shade and show small irregularities. This makes every piece unique.

How wide is the elf at my chosen height? The proportions stay the same. At 10 cm high, the elf is 6 cm wide. You can use this as a guide for other sizes.

This fibreboard cutout is made for an afternoon of painting, gluing and laughing at the kitchen table. And for the elves that find their place in your Christmas decorations again every year. Just choose your size and get started.
