Why these MDF gnomes make a difference
Shop-bought decorations look the same in every home. A Christmas gnome you've made yourself reminds you of the afternoon you made it. Use it in the window, in an Advent wreath arrangement or as a small gift for guests. Each figure is unique, because the colours, patterns and details are added by hand. And because you choose the size, each one fits exactly where you need it.
Material & finish
The gnomes are made from 3 mm HDF/MDF fibreboard. It is tightly pressed, keeps its shape and is pleasantly easy to work with. Laser cutting gives smooth edges that don't fray. The surface is left natural, neither varnished nor glazed. It takes paint, glue and craft materials well. The wood fibres vary in shade and may show small irregularities. This is not a flaw. It makes every piece one of a kind. HDF is a fibreboard like MDF, just more densely compressed. This makes it harder, so it stays stable even when thin.

How to use the MDF gnomes
- Crafting with children: everyone paints their own gnome. At the end, a whole gnome family stands on the windowsill, and everyone is proud of it.
- For an Advent calendar: number or decorate 24 small gnomes. Counting down the days becomes a ritual of its own.
- As a Christmas window decoration: a large gnome at 40 or 50 cm can be seen from outside before anyone rings the bell.
- In a café or bakery window: arrange several gnomes in graduated sizes. In a few minutes your display has a Christmas scene that makes customers stop and look.
- For model making and all kinds of decorations: the flat blanks can be cut, glued on and combined. That way you create exactly the detail your scene was missing.
Good to know about the gnome
The gnome comes from Scandinavian tradition. According to legend, the "Nisse" or "Tomte" watches over house and farm and brings small gifts at Christmas. That's why the figure with the pointed hat is now a firm part of Advent decorations. A Christmas gnome you've made yourself carries on this custom, at home or in your shop.
Care & durability
Care is simple: just wipe off dust with a dry cloth. The fibreboard is untreated, so it's best to keep it away from water and constant damp. Or seal it with paint or varnish while you decorate it. That way your gnomes keep their shape for many Christmases.
